Zack,

While the Eunuch Archive is a very friendly and helpful place, your question is just too large and open-ended to expect much response. I would suggest that you start with the thread Consequences of Castration (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4616) on the Nonfiction Board. That may give you all the information that you need.

Should you still have questions, they will be narrower ones that will be much easier for Archive members to approach.

Every Eunuch will have different effects from his castration. YMWV = Your Mileage Will Vary. Those who do not choose to take Testosterone Replacement Therapy can expect the following.

Infertility, in all cases. If this could be an issue, bank some sperm beforehand.

Some (but by no means all) eunuchs develop "The Eunuch Calm", a feeling of tranquil contentment, with reduced or eliminated thoughts of sex, aggression, and ambition. This has happened to me, but, again, YMWV.

Reduced libido, erections, and nocturnal emissions, sometimes to the point of total impotence and asexuality.

Weight gain, including subcutaneous body fat. (This thin layer of fat causes the skin to become softer and smoother.) You will need a lifetime diet and exercise program to avoid this problem.

Loss or thinning of body hair, but male pattern baldness slows down or stops. Reduced body odor. The pitch of your voice will not change.

Loss of lean muscle mass (hence muscle weakness, increased fatigue, and loss of stamina). Your shoulders will become narrower and you will lose muscle definition in your upper torso without a VIGOROUS exercise program.

Little to mild breast development (gynecomastia), and mild fat redistribution around the hips and thighs.

The penis may shrink.

Hot flushes and night sweats. Very much a YMWV happening. Some eunuchs take low levels of estrogen to counteract this. Consult your Physician.

POSSIBLE moodiness and tearfulness. Do not be surprised if you start crying far more frequently over what may seem to be trivial matters.

There MIGHT be cognitive losses, mostly in spatial orientation and short term memory.

Osteoporosis should be your #2 concern. Your chances of getting this disease are greater if you were castrated before the age of 40. Castration before age 25 MIGHT involve additional problems if your body has not yet finished its post-puberty growth. You should take at least 1,500 MG of calcium and 400 IU of Vitamin D daily. Shortly before or after castration, you should have a bone density scan, and after that a scan every two years. A proper diet and exercise program will help in the battle against osteoporosis.

DEPRESSION! This MUST be your #1 concern. Post-surgical depression is very likely as your testosterone levels crash. Chronic depression IS a major concern, and MAY require professional therapy (including antidepressants) before, during, and after the surgery. You need to consider the issue of depression BEFORE castration. If it is an issue before hand, it will almost certainly become a much larger one afterward. Castration before age 25 MIGHT increase your risk. Some eunuchs may have to take various amounts of testosterone to alleviate depression and other problems.

A Final Thought: most Physicians have no experience in caring for the hypogonadal male. Consider finding a Physician who has a thorough working knowledge on the problems and treatments of menopausal and post-menopausal women. Whilst the biology of a Eunuch and a post-menopausal woman are not identical, there is some significant overlap.

This list has been put together with the help of members of The Eunuch Archives.

There is a clinic in Belgium that will do castrations, among other things.

Hi FrankLi,

I think it might be helpful for you to know that American Eunuchs, a recent shockumentary that came out this year portrayed our community in a negative light. Because of this you may find people here are cautious about sharing personal information and experiences. I hope that you will be considerate and compassionate in your portrayal of our community because I don't want to see people becoming more isolated as a result of negative stereotypinging in the news, movies, books or what ever.

Best Wishes,

Jema

Hi frankli as my good friend Jema has said to many people want to label us but not take the time to know us.So when someone says they want to write about us we get defencive and thats a shame because we have been through a lot here .This is the most carring and best support site on this subject on the web i just hope as you write about us you keep that in mind that we do care about oneanother here and i realey dont see that at anyother site.Frankli i had my surgery done at a US hospital by my urologest and my hope is one day doctors understand that testosterone is not good for everyone as my doctor put it and no i am not a nut case or my doctor would not have done this for me but this is the life that sutes me best and i have never been happer since i was a young kid.So Frankli if you do write about this subject please take the time to get to know who we are and dont paint a picture that you dont understand that would be a shame if you did that and never took the time to understand us

Eunuch Community

Please realize that in absolutely no way do I (or the author of this novel) intend to put the eunuch community in a negative light. I joined this forum and have read through dozens of posts describing your experiences. I gave my real name and email address. I come to you as bearers of a very certain kind of information, a very special group, a community of people who share something unique with one another, something that I and most of the rest of the world do not understand. I am an artist - if I could listen to a record or read a story to truly get the information I needed, then surely I would. But we all know that there is nothing better than the human telling of human experience.

I understand the reluctance of a stigmatized people to open up to a stranger, especially one that wants to relate their story to others, however anonymously. I would of course not use your real name in any material - you don't even have to tell me your real name. I only ask for a phone conversation - totally on your terms. If any of you are musicians, writers, dancers, enthusiasts of self-expression, then I hope you can understand why personal contact with you is so important to me and the author (Tim Parsa is his name - he has written for Details Magazine and other publications). Those of you who view my request with skepticism - please reconsider contacting me. Misrepresenting the eunuch community is morally and artistically the last thing we are trying to do.

Thank You,

Zachary Bruce

I feel like I have been burned also, I did allow an interview with a camera man from the UK for bullseye tv, world of pain. I understand it has been shown in the UK. Where I feel burned is that they said, promissed, I would get a ccpy of the recording before they aired it, and at my request the schedule of when It would be aired in the UK and USA.

They got what they wanted and dont need me anymore because I have not herd a word from them sense.

So as per your request with what has happened to me and the recent scam on the shock channel of the american eunuch, my answer is no way.
