The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and were eagerly

awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so

great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still

observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and, of course, is known as Sinko de Mayo.

Sinko de Mayo.... ugh... Although Mexicans do love mayonaise, everyone knows that Cinco de Mayo is actually the Mexican version of the Kushubian holiday Pyat Mayu. It celebrates the famous defeat of the elite First Kushubian Cooks brigade by Mexican terrorists during the battle of Santa Maria Dolorossa Totalemente in 1864. The Kushubians were hired by the house of Hapsburg to provide their unique services to King Maxmillian of Mexico. There is a famous painting in the Kushubian national archives of the elite First Cooks Brigade charging the Mexican line in Santa Maria. With their sharp looking bright orange uniforms and chicken feather hats, holding their frying pans aloft in traditional fashion, and yelling "Te S'merditch!" (You Stink!), they remain an awsome sight to this day. Unfortunately, the painting remains unfinished.... the battle ended before the painter could complete his work. To this day, Kushubians celebrate Pyat Mayu by dressing in orange and charging around the streets of their capital city shouting "Te S'merditch!" It's unknown if the First Cooks Brigade is responsible for introducing mayonaise to the Mexicans... the facts are in dispute.
