Chemical castration and organ transplants

Has anyone had experience with chemical castration who has also had an organ transplant (eg heart, liver, kidney, pancreas etc)? I've been asking my specialists about Androcur, but they're not too keen because of possible drug interactions. I don't want to go against their advice, because I've already lost one kidney transplant and spent 18 months on dialysis for one reason or another--possibly dropping a prednisone dose, and/or using St John's Wort for a time. I desperately want to drop my libido though, since I've been sexually addicted since I was 4 years old, and the problem has got a whole lot worse since my second transplant last September.

You could try using the anabolic steroid, Deca durabolin (nandrolone decanoate), or Trenbolone acetate (Finalpix), which will both do wonders for decreasing your libido.

Maybe you should seriously consider surgical castration. I don't know if someone in your condition should take any drugs. At least with surgery you would not ever have to worry about testicle cancer.

I still had the desire to have sex with deca, but it dramatically affected my ability to get and maintain erections. It decreased my sexual sensitivity and it made it very difficult to get excited enough to have an orgasm. It also decreased sperm volume.

Prozac or Zoloft will take away sexual desire. Nizoral shampoo contains ketoconazole that is used for chemical castration. You can buy it in any supermarket (near the dandruff shampoos) and if you soap up all over (including scrotum) every day and let it sit on your skin for a few minutes before washing it off, it will decrease your testosterone. It may take ten days for you to notice.

In my opinion, I could not support ANY chemical or surgical solution without the full knowlege and co-operation of your medical advisors. You must give primary importance to staying alive! As much as I would like to further your aims if you are not alive and alert it means nothing. FLO

The psychiatrist at the hospital started me on Prozac on May 4, but it hasn't reduced unwanted erections, although it seems to have stopped the production of semen. Unfortunately my spina bifida also predisposes me to erections, as well as the hyperandrogenism/hypersexuality.

The psychiatrist seems to think the cyproterone acetate would be OK, subject to the approval of an endocrinologist. I'm seeing the endocrinologist on May 28, so here's hoping.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I did a few checks on side effects, interactions etc for both of these, and found that being anabolics they can increase other effects of hyperandrogenism such as acne and excessive hair growth (both issues that I already have, and have had for several years). At least the cyproterone acetate will deal with these problems. As I said in my reply to DocT, I now have the psychiatrist's approval for cyproterone acetate, and I should have approval from the endocrinologist by the end of this week.

I agree wholeheartedly. You're absolutely right there--that's why I've taken nearly 3 months to start treatment. In any case, there's no way to get prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription here anyway, since in NZ we have very tight border controls, no land borders, and a highly regulated pharmaceutical sector.
