Death of Paul Winfield

I was saddened to learn of the death of the actor Paul Winfield, on March 7, 2004, one of the better actors in Hollywood and possibly one of the best black actors of all time.
Winfield starred in several movies and dozens of situation dramas and comedies. He began his acting career in 1968 and worked continuously until his death a few days ago.
His performances included everything from the narration of the crime series, City Confidential on A&E to playing Richard III on the legitimate stage. He performed in twenty plays at the famous Mart Taper Forum.
As I am a Science Fiction and Fantasy fanatic, I will remember him more for his contributions to that genre. He was in such classics as Damnation Alley, Mars Attacks, Star Trek-The Wrath of Khan, etc.
His few contributions to Science Fiction series will also be remembered: he played in Babylon 5 as a general and father of the of the doctor; and played the Tamarian commander in a New Generation episode called Darmok, one of THE best New Generation episodes.
Science Fiction has truly lost a sincere contributor.
