Possible prolonged absence from the EA

Post by Andrew (imported) »

As some of you know, I work as a Level 11 Electronics Technician for the United States Postal Service. Do not worry, The Eunuch Calm prevents me from being disgruntled. πŸ™„

I am know assigned to working on the AFCS, the Advanced Facing and Canceller System. To prepare me for that task, I am being sent to Norman Oklahoma for a six week school on the AFCS. It is one of the more complicated machines in the Post Office. πŸ™‹

I fly out Monday 16 February. School last from 17 February to 26 March. I fly back to Los Angeles on 27 March. :shakemitk

I am not sure if I will be able to access The Eunuch Archives. My brother has given me an ancient portable computer, and I will try to make it work from the hotel telephone system. If you don't receive a message from me on the evening of Monday 17 February, it means I probably failed. 😭

As for the cats, my Brother and his family will be over once a day to take care of the cats. 🐱

If you cannot get throught to the EA, hurry back. You will definitely be missed.

Andrew,

Many hotels have high speed internet connections now. When you get there, inquire if such a thing is available.

We will miss you.

Hurry back,, and God speed.

🚬 A-1 🚬

Best of luck! I'm sure the cats will be fine (and I am a real cat lover!).

Good luck on your trip Andrew.

A-1 is right, many hotels do offer connections for internet service. Be sure to have the proper cables. I don't know if such things are available at the lobby desk.

Andrew, I am glad you do feel calm; what a major benefit but it is a bit of a bummer being separated from your cats, home and privacy (that's the order the cats would place it in!). As long as they are at home and they are fed

and it gets warm enough sometime for them to explore outside, I have a sneaky feeling they will miss you slightly less than you miss them- but that's

just cat nature and they will be so pleased when you do return!

I hope you enjoy this course and if you can't access the Archive all of us know how cut off you'll feel (no pun intended - hehe).

Here's hoping you stay around with a decent link from your hotel, but that

is not assured I'm afraid. If I were you I'd copy onto floppies or whatever storage device you use a whole section of parts of the Archive you enjoy and then you can at least access a floppy. Many of us highly approve of floppies ;) Take care.

Andrew--Don't know if you will have wheels in Norman, but if you do, you'll probably be only a few minutes from a place where you can log on with their computers. Many public library branches let you do this, and you may not be asked for a card. If you do need a card, you may be able to get one, simply by mailing a letter to yourself at your lodging place, to establish a local address. Since you will be in the same city as the U. of Oklamoma, it's possible that there are places on campus where you can use the computers--sometimes it's possible to get a temporary use permit. I know of one place, the University of Calgary, where (at least, a couple of years ago), anybody could walk off the street and into the library, and log on.

Then, of course, there are internet cafes, though using the computers there may cost you a few dollars. In the area where I reside, there is even an internet McDonalds.

Hope your pride, or whatever a family of domestic felines is called, don't get lonesome in your absence.

The traditional word is "clowder", as in "a clowder of cats".

Ah, but what is the correct term for a group of eunuchs? A ball-less of eunuchs? That's just one possibility. Any other suggestions?
