We have all read about the many successes of castration. What about the people who have regretted it for some reason. It would be good to hear from them and why they regret what happened. It could help others in making the choice for themselves. All information is helpfull, in this serious quest of a lot of guys. The more informed the better.

One key factor in determining the regret issue is the disappearance, either gradual or abrupt, of online contacts from the Message Boards, Chat Room, Instant Messengers, or even telephone contact for those more intimately involved. It's certainly not the only signal, but it's usually the first one. It's a pretty safe bet that when you have a Contact that is around for a while, active on the Internet in whatever form, or as a good online friend, that his seeming to vanish from human ken is your main clue that he regrets what he did. When this happens, it's doubtful that you'll ever hear from them again.

You are absolutely correct that nearly all members who stick around the Archive after castration are very happy with their decision. There are certainly, also, those who regret their decision and disappear from sight.

I originally came to the Archive to try to understand one of the nicest and brightest young men I have ever known. For reasons that I will never know, he had himself castrated. He not only regretted his decision, but later committed suicide over it. I came here to try to understand why ANYONE would ever wish to be voluntarily castrated. I can now understand and accept (some, but not all, of) the reasons that members here have given.

I know personally one other person who joined the Archive and discussed his impending castration but briefly before he took action (with Dr. Kimmel). He quickly came to regret his action and attempted suicide. I keep in touch with him, and he has become a very good friend. He is no longer involved at all with the Archive.

I have talked about this issue with some of the friends I have made here on the Archive, and we know that there have been several others who have seriously regretted their decisions – at least one of whom also committed suicide over it.

I have written to some of the younger members here who have seemed to be getting too close to making an irreversible decision without ever having fully explained their reasons or demonstrated that they fully understood the consequences.

As Andrew’s invaluable health notes clearly state, a serious bout of DEPRESSION is nearly inevitable with sudden loss of testosterone. A support system is critical for anyone contemplating castration. (Thinking through and fully understanding the rest of his health notes is also important!)

Slammr’s latest story, Obsession (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/O/ea_205441obsessio.htm) deals with this issue and is a must-read item for anyone here who fantasizes about someday being castrated. It’s not only extremely well written, but also very thought-provoking.

One of the important functions that the Archive serves is as a sounding board and a place for feedback for its members. I know that I read all of the posts and stand ready to jump in with Private Messages whenever I think they are needed. I know that the Chat Room Operators are also continually monitoring for rationality. Have people clearly thought through their goals and reasons?

You ask a thought provoking question. To a degree, all previous responses to this question show a fundamental understanding of a site such as Eunuch Archive.

My experience with castration goes back to 1993. I lost a personal part of my body. My mind did not understand the consequences of this act. My body was not ready for the consequences of this act. My doctor and friends were not ready for the consequences of this act. You see, nobody was ready for the consequences of castration. Yet I only lost one testicle. Our maker was quite wise in duplicating most of our organs. I had two testicles, now one…and I survived. My only regret was the educational process my doctor underwent and my owned edification of the situation at hand.

Many men undergo orchiectomy but few are under 28 years of age. Now cancer patients, especially testicular cancer patients, undergo this procedure with the same knowledge as my doctors, the public, and I. In my case, my right testicle remained in place but the fact it did not work properly was an unknown. Thinking back, if the unknown was brought to light I might not have undergone the original operation.

I do look back but I will not dwell on the situation. I do not regret my decision to have my left testicle removed. I do not spend energy on something I cannot change. I truly believe in going forward and living my life to the best of my ability.

Men who regret their castration decision are consuming energy on a nonproductive initiative. Let us hope our experiences with this issue open the eyes to those individuals thinking about castration. We are all different, we all react differently to stimuli and we all have a choice

I now have no testicles and by choice...no regrets but lots of understanding and education.

And honestly, in this largely pro-castration atmosphere, surrounded by people that have it, want it, or fanatsize about it, would a single (or even a very small number) cautionary tale really have that much of an effect?

I have nothing against the EA, it's a great place. A wonderful place that I am glad be a part of, and proud to have been here almost from the beginning. I've met some very nice people, and more than a few good friends here. However, especially in the chat room, telling people about the big potential downsides doesn't really seem to have any effect. Most seem to fall into two categories, those that want to JO over it, and those that have already made up their minds about it.

Those that want to JO do'nt want to hear about the downsides and risks, as it ruins the mood. Those that have already decided either believe it won't happen to them, don't believe there are any downsides, or think these things are exaggerated.

Yes, there are a few that are serious and willing to listen. Chances are, they've already read that list thoughtfully posted by Andrew every so often. (Thanks, Andrew.)

The last problem though, has already been pointed out. Most that regret it don't tend to stay around here long after the regret sets in. Watching other people make the same mistake you did, without being able to stop them, can be hard on a person.

No, naturally not. It started as a test to see how old the system would let you be before it started rejecting the year, then I left it to see if it would continue to count up on its own.

I am really a eunuch, though.

The first thing any depressed eunuch should do is start on testosterone & then back off slightly. I suppose that the abrupt withdrawal from T that comes with an orchiectomy can be quite a shock for some.

With all due respect to River's post I would suggest that if you even expect that you could be or that it is possible that you could be depressed please address the depression before you get castrated.

Not always do complicated cases like River's have such a good outcome. We are all unique.

You can always get castrated, just know that they will not grow back.
