I need some advice regarding which of two methods of castration to select: An Elastrator or a Burdizzo. I would appreciate hearing the ppros and cons of each procedure. Also, after castration, will I be able to attain an erection? Will I be able to have an ejaculation?
Thanks for your help, Diane

Advice: Forget both the elastrator and burdizzo, and see Dr. Kimmel.
Erections after castration: Depends on your age, what your adrenal glands will be putting out, and other factors poorly known. In general, the younger you are at castration, the more likely you will have erections after castration. The longer you are a eunuch, the more likely you are to become totally impotent. YMWV.
Ejaculations: For some time (variable from person to person), you will still ejaculate the fluids produced by the prostate. As time goes by (variable from person to person), the prostate becomes inactive and you have dry orgasms.

Diane,
I think you will find that as members see this, you'll get the same advice. Neither method works well on a human. The burdizzo is painful and unreliable, as some can attest, and elastrators hurt like hell and almost NEVER lead to successful castrations as they do in small farm animals. I think I have only read of ONE successful elastrator job, and I can't for the life of me remember who that was.
They're fine for play, if you like, but for a permanent job, they're not a good idea.

Paolo, I think the person that had the one successful elastrator job was a guy called MiJim or something like that, have not seen him post for a couple of years now.
Diane, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, us a qualified doctor, have the castration done professionally and safe.

If you are a transsexual, you will want to preserve your scrotum for it is used in the srs surgery. Even if not, you still want to preserve it because you might change your mind and go for the operation anyways.
The discussions of the banding methods indicate two things. First, the small bands hurt a lot. Second, the large bands cut away the scrotum in the process. Suppliers of these producers such as Jeffers Livestock recommend that you also purchase for your animals a tetanus shot since gangrene is a real possibility considering the duration blood must be denied the area. For these reasons, the elastrator is not a good route for transsexuals.
As to the Burdizzo, it has better chances of actually working. There are a few doctors at Wayne State University who successfully used it ONCE on a transsexual. They applied pressure to each spermatic cord for 30 seconds. A lot of the burdizzo's use seems to depend on a crisp attack, but there are so many variations on technique that formulating a plan that will work on the first shot is nearly impossible. I once performed a search of USENET for anecdotal evidence. I found that there are at least three different sizes and the count varied from 30 seconds to a few minutes. Also, the number of applications per side is not consistent. Of course, many reported a month of pain and swelling. The burdizzo requires an accomplice to close the jaws (not needed for the bands).
Given a choice only between burdizzo and banding, I would choose the burdizzo since it preserves the scrotum and leaves very few marks. Given a choice only between burdizzo and a surgeon, I would choose a surgeon.
As for the ejaculation question,
http://www.beavercleaver.net/ states that sterility sets in after about 10 ejaculations.

Farming castration methods, such as elastrator and burdizzo, don't work well for humans for two reasons.
First of all a cow has no way to remove an elastrator, so has to suffer it. A human will eventually (usually after an hour or so) get fed up with the extreme discomfort and remove the band. It is very, very difficult to volutarily withstand an elastrator for the length of time required.
The burdizzo is also not as effective on humans as on farm animals, because farm animals are mostly herd animals, and herd animals' testicles are designed for a couple mating seasons per year while humans are designed to mate year-round. This means that humans' testicle blood supply is much more flexible than a sheep or cow. For example, farmers can actually break off a sheeps testicle!
