urrrmmm.... ok, you know the address bar at the top of the screen? well if i type in www. then a letter say for example 'E' then all the website ive visited begining with 'E' scroll down, i dont want anyone to be offended because im not ashamed of the websites ive visited, but people can see were ive been lurking!

I can see right now that the first thing YOU need to do is run to the local bookstore and grab yourself a copy of "The Idiots' Guide to Windows __" where the __ is the version you have. No offense, but every 10 year old kid out there knows how to cover his tracks - some better than others. If you're going to be in the pool, you have to know how to swim.

And you DO leave tracks. Every time you do anything in a browser, the computer is recording it.

For the moment, you can go into MY COMPUTER (that's the icon on your wallpaper screen) and look for CONTROL PANEL, then look for INTERNET OPTIONS. Open that. You'll see a response box with things DELETE COOKIES, CLEAR HISTORY, DELETE FILES, etc.

Do all of those. That'll clear it all out ... until the next time you start up the browser and go surfing. Then it all piles up again.

You know, I've been all over this board since emptying my COOKIE folder, and the silly thing hasn't planted a new one in all day.

There should be several relatively inexpensive programs that will help you take care of this. For my Mac, I use SpringCleaning and keep an icon for its iClean module on my desktop. At least a couple of times a week I run it to clear out all of the unwanted cookies and history files. It lets me easily select which cookies to keep and which to turn into crumbs scattered through the aether.

I’m sure there must me comparable cheap and easy-to-use programs for the PC users.

Internet Options If you share your computer with others, one of the best things you can do is get Windows 2000 or XP. Both are designed to have multiple users on one computer, so when you sign on to the computer under your username and password, ALL of your files - including cookies, internet history, etc. are associated with you and you alone. When the other person logs in under THEIR username and password they see THEIR cookies, internet history, etc. not yours. Here is a program that I have used before. It's worth taking a look at:

I'm just the opposite, Jesus.

I have my machine set to limit what cookies it accepts, and those it does accept I want. I go through maybe once a month to clear out the few that no longer make sense to keep.

Other than that I have my main browser set to keep the last 600 URLs visited in history so that I can easily go back to places I've recently been to, without having to bookmark (save to Favorites) each and every one.

Security on this machine is such that I wouldn't need to worry about someone just stumbling onto my history - even if I cared ...
