Under new or existing pornography laws, could posting stories to this site, or any other, be considered to be the distribution of pornography given the content of many (most) of the stories? The Republicans are in power after all.

Past Supreme Court decisions make the area clear, but there is a new thing about the Inernet being world wide and one community not being allowed to impose its morality on the rest of the world. We have seen how many hard line Republicans already are active and supportive members of this site.

And what is pornographic about anthing we are doing here? Just showing pics of nullified guys?

Remember, a republican is still just a human and they have been showing how they say one thing moralistically and practice the opposite just like the Democrats. As do all politicans of any party, any stripe, any country. it's all about gaining power then abusing it. But when the world ends they will go under with the rest of us.

I had anotgher thought anent this subject. Although local communityh laws can be applied to the public sale of pornography, there is a different matter regarding what you look at on the Internet. First noone is allowed to spy on you in your home without some kind of search warrant and they need some valid reason to get one.

I do know of one web site, called dorporal punishment (corpun.com) that actually was sut down by the immigration departemnt even though the host server was located in Europe. Some christian who visited teh site regularly accused them of promoting child pron -- which it did not -- and the man was not able to come to America and sue the INS. The whole thing was totally illegal and no due process was untilized. he is back online with anotehr server. Whaat is interesting is that there is never anything on the site that is pornoographic in any way. no sex, no description of sex actys. All he ever does is record historical and news-realted articles and documents about judicial and educational punishments that are extant, or have been stopped. Everything on the site is concerned wtih legal corporal punishments exercized by coutnries, governments and scvhools. Perhaps teh christian complainer got hot about them and couldn't ahndle it so wanted his own temptation removed. Perhaps the punishments used in christian schools were too close to home for him.

But it was outrageous that th INS was ablle to coerce the web server into dropping the site. Some lower level bureaucrat was able to exercise dictatorial powers of censorship without any legal basis. he should be jailed himself.

Just a quick correction...due to the Patriot Act, this is no longer true. The cops still need a warrant (unless they suspect you're doing drugs) but no longer need a judge to approve wiretaps or perform surveillance on your home, meaning they don't need a valid reason anymore.
