Gonex (
www.gonex.com) is the most promising product intended for permanent human castration with a single injection. Definitely check out their site. Their product will likely be approved by the FDA for veterinary purposes first. Interestingly, the shot can castrate both men and women (same stuff).
I've also found one of the Gonex patents. See:

Fascinating. It looks like it might have some promising implications, but I want to see medical trials. For now its Androcur for me!

While the Gonex Corporation has conducted trials on dogs for FDA approval, it has not yet begun human trials for the drug. It is soliciting investors who would like to sponsor such a trial, though.
Gonex may become available through your local (or on-line) veterinary supply company within a year or so and be used by your local Humane Society to castrate strays before adoption. But, it will not be approved for human use for at least two or three years because of the need for human trials.
Norelin, a very similar drug with similar consequences, by YM Biosciences of Massassuaga, Ontario, IS in human trials now. They enrolled the last patient in the trial in January and expect to announce results by the end of the year. All of the patients have prostate cancer and Norelin was used instead of surgical castration or previously approved chemical castration. The hope is that one injection will permanently immunize the body against testosterone, both in production and uptake of that produced by the adrenal glands.
Stay tuned for future announcements.

immunize the body against testosterone,
does this mean that it would also stop any HRT from working?

Actually it immunizes the body to the first steps (like luteinizing hormones) in the creation of testosterone or estrogen within the body. I think HRT would still work.
