For the first time since 1929, a gelding won the Kentucky Derby.
Over on fark.com this generated a twisted thread. But within that thread was an idea and one I've not seen here.
While there are a few story of ponyboys getting clipped as part of ownership or part of not doing well in a race (in fact I'm in the middle writing such a thing, myself) this is new:
The race is one of all geldings.
Big deal you say?
Here's the interesting part:
They all get gelded at the same time, *at the gate* and then run the race.
Wonder what they'd be trying to win.. or not lose?
This is an interesting idea, I think. And one I doubt I'll try writing myself. i just don't have a "feel" for how it'd go.

Re: Gelding race (ponyboy)
This is not a sensible idea at all. If "Ponyboy" reads one of the many veterinary websites about colt castration and post-operative care, he will see why.

People OR horses, with being gelded at the gate, they wouldn't be doing too much running just THEN.

What if they were told that they would get sewn back on if they came in first or second? First place gets both, second get only one.

Re: Gelding race (ponyboy)
It is an interesting idea. For a fantasy story.
Interesting and sensible do not always go together.
Many (some would say all) of these stories are not sensible - but that doesn't mean that are not interesting fantasy.
My pet interest (slow crushing) is certainly not a sensible thing. But that doesn't keep me from fantasizing about it.
