Lack of notifications

I am not quite sure when it started, but I no longer receive any notifications when threads on the message board that I have participated in are replied to. Yes, I have this option still enabled in my preferances.

Another problem is with the smilies. I get informed that some sort of scripting error happens, and do I want to continue. If I say no, I cannot use smilies. If I say yes, I can use smilies, but I don't get that "click" sound when one is selected.

Andrew is correct,

I'm not sure when it started either, but I am not getting any notifications to threads I have participated in. The last time I was notified was on 04/08/03 to any of the threads.🤷 😵‍💫

PS, I don't have any problems with the smiles.👌

As of 2 May, I still do not get notifications, I still have problems with the smilies, and I note the opening page is still dated 16 February. Have I failed to get some sort of update?

Maybe you need to refresh you favorites listing. What you do is type in the www.eunuch.org instead of clicking on your favorites. There is soemthing I don't understand where as long as you use the favorites you keep coming up with a "used" or out of date opening page even though etc etc etc. Maybe someone can verify this. Give it a try.

It's an issue that partly is due to the way vBulletin is coded to send email and partly due to the weird way eunuch.org's host has their servers set up to do email.

Even though we run on our own dedicated server, they configure all of their domains to use a dedicated 'email' server that they have to ease their administration burden.

Either one of these issues alone would not be a deal breaker, but taken together they make getting email out of vB to be quite a challenge.

I have restored the 'stock' emailing code in vB, which although doesn't consistantly work, it at least seems to work for some things/in some cases.

Andrew, post here and let me know if notifications start working for you again.

As far as the smilies issue goes, no one else has reported the problem, and it works here. What browser and version are you using?

I use AOL 5.0, and it was working for well over a year. In any case, I deleted EA from "favorites", and reached it again by typing in the URL for the landing page. I guess I will know in another 24 hours if notifications resume. If not, I may just have to live with it.

Ok, I just started getting notifications again. I'm not sure if I did anything to correct this, but I'm glad they are working now.:)

Not sure what is going on, but, yes, I am getting notifications again.

The problem with the smilies persists, and the opening page is still that of 16 February.
