My pending surgery

Hello to all,
As a few of you know already, I am preparing for surgery soon. No, it's not SRS or castration surgery (that may happen in the near future though) it's for an umbilical hernia. This is something I wish to have taken care of soon, because it apparently is not getting any better with time. I was refered to a surgeon on Thursday 02/27/03 for tests and an evaluation. He agrees, along with two other doctors, it is a hernia, but I'm not 100% conviced it is ( I've had cysts before and believe this may be one also and even told the doctor about it). Although I am told this is a rather simple and straight forward surgery, I will have to be admitted to the hospital in case complications arise. I won't know until later this week when I'm to go in for surgery, I'll let everyone know as soon as I do. Obviously, I'm going to have to put my HRT on hold sometime before the surgery so as not to interfere with blood cloting abilities. This is the first of any kind of surgery that I can remember, and I'm sort of nervous and scared about it because I'm told there could be complications (they won't really know until the surgery at this point). If all goes well, I might be out for a few days, if not it may be longer. On the lighter side, I may get to enjoy a much needed break from work and probably spend more time posting and chatting here. Wish me luck for a speedy and safe recovery.
Hugs

Everyone's nervous about surgery, especially hernia sugery because it's always considered major surgery. You would be abnormal if you weren't worried.
Don't feel bad about being scared or anxious, but you should talk to the doctor and nurses and perhaps a shrink. I once wrote a will before a surgery. So don't feel bad about being worried.

Christina, you of all people should know that you have the entire EA behind you, with various prayers, Good thoughts, Best wishes, or whatever.
And it is OK to feel some fear and nervousness, just as it is OK to feel post-surgical depression, even if all went well. This is your body and mind reacting to a major trauma. About a year from now you will look back and grin at all this.
And this will be a good practice run for surgeries of the future, which you have indicated will be needed. I stopped at castration, of course. <G>
And remember, we are supporting you all the way.
^..^ And that includes us two cats, Pearly and Conway ^..^

Hi again,
Thank's for all your concerns about me and my upcoming surgery.
I just got word today, my surgery is scheduled for Friday, March 14 th. I am told this is a 4 hour procedure and I should be released from the hospital the same day, if everything goes well. I will post any new info if anything happens before then, if not, I will post again as soon as I feel well enough to do so.
Thank's again,
Hugs

Christina,
Having had a couple major surgerys I do know what your are going through. My last one was the gallbladder which did scare me also, they said we are going to poke three little holes in you and one small cut at the navel and when you wake you will have bandaids over them. When I woke the first thing I did was feel for the bandaids, they were there. Funny Castration is not major surgery yet is more evacive, strange. I know with it I have had phantom pains on and off which is well strange to feel your nuts pulling or aching knowing there in a jar.
Good luck, everything will be fine.
Be sure to tell us all about it on Saturday, you wont be up to it Friday.

Hello to all,
Thank You for your prayers and best wishes. I have been home now for 6 hours. Surgery went well as can be expected, considering I just had a major operation. Right now I feel well enough to eat, mostly liquids. I am in a lot of pain, but not too unbearable yet. I can't move around very well, getting in and out of bed is really hard to do, as is walking and sitting. I was in surgery for 2 hours from what I've been told, the last thing I remember was being wheeled into the operating theater about 3:30pm, then waking up in the recovery room at 6:30pm. I was scheduelded for a 2pm operation but there was delays because of other patients. All in all, I guess I'm doing ok for now if I don't move around too much.
Love and Hugs to you all.

I'm sorry you endure pain. I was surprised not to have pain when I had by bypass surgery. Take whatever medication for pain that you can take.
Two years ago, my boss had the same surgery you had. He improved very quickly. I trust you too will have a fine outcome. Now, just rest.
