I thought the following link would be of interest to the forum:

http://www.hum.uit.no/nordlit/4/helle.html

There is more information on the Skoptsi in Castration and the Heavenly Kingdom by Laura Engelstein. I have ordered the book from amazon.com but it has yet to be delivered, although it does look fascinating. It is at the top of my reading list.

Best Wishes

Leon

HelleΒ’s article is a very nice one that I hadnΒ’t run across yet. Thank you for the reference. I expect that I will make good use of it somewhere

Back when the Nonfiction Board first began, I did a review of EngelsteinΒ’s book that was long enough to require cutting into three sections for posting. If youΒ’re interested, the links are below.

Below, courtesy of Talula's book collection, is the "Great Seal" of the Skoptzy. This is a nullification wound, done by the "red hot irons" in the "Baptism of fire". I'd post the whole body shot, but the fellow isn't overly cute!

Yea, well, we can't ALL have cute scars, can we?!

Now you know why I am SOOOO happy that Harry Potter never came out when I was 11! It's been 25 years and they're only now fading away.

However, it's time to be eunuchs and face the truth of love and death. That's why we watch CSI. 🚬

"we"?

OK, I have not had a TV set since 1985, so what is this CSI, and what is the supposed truth about love and death? Not trying to strat an arguement, just curious and wanting more information.

Um,

I'm afraid of people who don't have a TV set! What, you some kind of commie who does not what to take part in our culture (yeah that is a laugh)? Then again, you have not missed much, TV has become a never ending escalating freek show! Hug me A-1 that guy is wierd; no TV, I wonder if he has heard of a tooth brush?

But I get to sit my butt down and watch the US forces getin ready to woop some A-rab tail on the tube!! Can I then vacation in Bagdad and have my own harem? Now that is my turn on.

Viceroy of the Harem,
