I have been plagued by acne for years, and I hate it. Recently, the following paragraph on a website got me thinking:
There unfortunately is no permanent cure for acne - not even the powerful prescription drug Accutane. If any organization claims they have a permanent cure then they are misleading you.
Now, here's a question I have, for anyone who had lots of acne problems, and got castrated: Did getting castrated cure your acne?

Re: Permanent Cure for Acne
As you may have guessed the answer for me is yes. I lost my T production to chemo and I remember the day (before we figured out that my T was low) that I though wow finally got over the acne.
once I got on HRT it came back, so yes it might for you as well. The easy way to find out without castration is to take one of the anti-androgen drug to supress your T and see if the acne clears up.
Then you'll have your answer.

Testosterone does cause acne to some degree.
I had a bad case of classic zits when I had the HRT back in 1999-2000. Of the boys here, those who have started puberty are fighting it as well. Oxy-wash, Stridex pads, you name it, it only helps a bit.
None of the little guys have that problem - but the older ones sure do. The only exception is the neighbors' boy 3 houses down that I've mentioned before. He's 15, and still hasn't started puberty. On the upside, his face is clear, though.

if I am the only person who has to use acne medication, so be it. I'll suffer.

Had some pimples from my 13th to my 52nd year.
Since I am castrated (16 months) they are gone.
Nearly. regards

Re: Permanent Cure for Acne
I have always had some form of acne since puberty. After beginning HRT and several weeks after a dose change, I would have a few outbreaks. But once the T was brought down to castration levels, I have had very few, if any, problems with acne.

My skin cleared up wonderfully after I lost my testosterone. I used to have terrible skin conditions, but not anymore. On top of the drop in T, estrogen does wonders for the skin, but can leave it rather dry.
If skin becomes too dry, you can add progesterone to your HRT--it keeps the skin a bit more oily, helps keep fingernails strong, and enhances the female libido, as well as aids breast growth.
Hugs,
Kelly
