We've discussed it before, with not a whole lot of replies on the board.
I find this to be amusing, at best, though. The very nature of these loons leads me to think that they've NOT cloned a human.
While it's a fascinating concept that the Earth was seeded with clones of aliens, I have to laugh at these people.

I find it interesting that this cult believes that apparantly advanced extra-terrestrials produced clones in order to begin the human race and them left them to make the current mess!
From the way in which it was reported in this country there is a large degree of scepticism. Even their own spokesman here did not seem convinced.
LOL

frankly, I hope it's true. I am tired of the arraogance of politicians in this country (the USA) who restrict everything because "it's bad for society" and all that doo-doo. Most of them wouldn't know a philosophical thought if it crossed their narrow little minds. And as for what's good for society, why there isn't three active neurons amoung the whole gang in the congress that have any idea what that phrase means.
In ten days, we will know if we have another "cold fusion experiment" hell, even another hot fusion success - - remember that 25 years ago, hot fusion was 25 years away. Now it's 25 years later and it's still 25 years away. . . . hmmmm! I suspect a pattern.
Like I said, I hope they succeeded. It will be a welcome change from all the warmongering going on !!!
BTW - I'm constipated and my hemheroids hurt tooo!!!

Dave,
I don't think you have thought it through to express such an idea.
Question: Whose child is it, actually?
When a child is born by normal procreation even by surrogacy, it has parents. A child born from cloning is effectively an identical twin of the one from whom it was cloned, ie: its twin is at least 20 years older than it! Its parents will be the parents of the twin from whom it was cloned - but what if the parents are dead?
Who has the right to make decisions for the child?
In my view cloning is the ultimate in personal vanity. The child is not created for the sake of the child but for the sake of the person from whom it was cloned. PURE EVIL as far as I am concerned.

This special cloning may be a - perhaps - fairy tale. But I have seen a lot of sites in the net: feministic sites demand the cloning of humans (i.e. females) and the abolition of all the males or at least of 98 % of the males.
I think in a few years this practice (now dammed by the polticians) is quite common.
Just a step in the (ultimate) gender war...

Upsides, Downsides,
Problems that I see with cloning:
1. Failed clones - how many 'aborted' fetuses or failures per baby?
2. Cost - a new toy for the rich?
3. Designer babies - being a "naturally gened" person is out of style someday?
4. Specialized hybrid humans grown in labs for menial duties, OR on the other end of the spectrum - bred for intelligence, stamina, military genius (Ender's Game by OS Card comes to mind - Bean)
5. Discrimination? Throw the clones in with the niggers, spics, fags, dykes, zebras, hebes, (insert more slurs here) et al ... does "clone" become a bad word some day, referred to as "the c-word"? Harsh words, yes, but valid still.
6. Quality of life for said clone person overall.
7. Experiments - how do we KNOW how the clone baby will turn out as far as health in the long run? How long until we "get it right"?
Advantages?
1. Sterile people can have a child. (Given the amount of kids out there crying for a home now, why bother? Put the pride aside, people and adopt.)
Just an aside, if you don't have the heart to love a child that is not genetically yours and adopt him/her, then you don't have the heart to love ANY child.
2. Knowing what's coming - yes he'll have allergies. Yes, he'll be prone to ear infections, etc etc.
3. Designer babies ... see #3 above. Could go either way.
4. Increased knowledge of the human genome.
BUT is this a good thing?
I've often said before that I see nothing wrong with cloning, but when you stop and think about it, giving full throttle to this new science on an old idea is much like giving a toddler a loaded gun. It's only a matter of time before he shoots himself ... or YOU. As with anything that could possibly do a great deal of good, this has the fantastic potential of going incredibly bad.

I most certainly thought it through. HARUMPH!!!!
The clone is a child of whoever it was cloned from (man or woman) and it's mother is whoever carried it to term and delivered it. THat might mean that there is only one parent on the birth certificate, which is not unusual in this world. When we start raising people in test tubes (without human wombs) then we really have to address the parent problem.
I hope all of you understand that a CLONE may not be as identical as you think!!! A clone may not be the perfect physical duplicate of it's singular parent!!! Go and find identical twins (That is born of the same zygote) who have the identical genetic material and see hoe different they are from each other. I'm an identical twin and I know this for a fact.
As for designer babies, that is another realm of genetic manipulation. Cloning will not produce designer babies.
I see a problem in the possibility or marrying a first or second cousin with the genetic material being too close. That's a distinct problem.

The day we allow the ideologues to determine our genetic future -- especially ideologues as sick and hateful as the radical feminists who would institute such programs universally if they could -- is the day we sow the seeds of our own demise.
Just my two cents.

...I suspect that few females will elect to have "artificial insemination" when the "real thing" is available.
Of course, I imagine a few have experienced incompetence...er...make that impotence...er...no...I guess in this case you would just call it the equivalent of "premature innoculation".
