I guess this post doesn't apply directly to the Archive, at least not yet. But I just wanted y'all to know that my manuscript has been accepted for publication.

I have posted it here because there is no doubt in my mind that all the encouragement, suggestions and feedback from readers here have helped to make this dream a reality.

So THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!

As promised, as soon as the final print comes out I will be making it available to EA readers somehow... can't think how just now because I am far too excited.

Incidentally, the name of the publisher is PublishAmerica. Appropriate, don't you think?

Later, people... I love you all!

By the way, I wonder if this is a first for the EA? Bboy? Paolo? Talula?

Charlie,

Congratulations. IΒ’m certainly looking forward to having a copy of your book on my shelves. I know itΒ’s going to be great and I expect that it will be a wonderful gift for a number of my friends. Let us all know the publication date when you find out. It helps sales to have some pre-publication orders placed at bookstores around the country.

Thanks, everyone... no one is more excited than me.

As for publish date, it could be a while. My contract says "within 365 days," and since we still have final edit etc to go through, it will take some time.

One of the good things about PublishAmerica is that the author has the final say in every word, every punctuation mark. So when it finally comes out, it will NOT be my idea put into words by professional editors. They will be giving me a list of suggested changes (so I'm told) but the final decision will be mine. I like that!

I'll let y'all know as soon as I hear anything.

what do you mean your getting published doesn't relate to the Archive? have you fallen out of your tree in your excitement? of course it relates because you are part of the archive family -- anda cherished member at that! consider yourself admonished for that little bit of foolishness!

now, that that's out of the way -- CONGRAULATIONS!!!! that's fantastic and wonderful news. the publishers now know what everyone onthe archive knows -- you are a great writer with a compelling style.

i'm really, really happy about the news. congratulations, congratulations and again, congratulations.

Well, guys and gals, I guess I spoke too soon.

I got a copy of the contract last night, and reviewing it I discovered a clause that asked me to declare that my submission had never been published before. I emailed them immediately and explained that the book WAS published, in 2000, but the publisher had gone out of business three months after the book was in print. Well, the publisher has a policy that it will not produce books that were previously published, so the deal is off. Needless to say I am somewhat pissed off right now.

I am negotiating with another publisher, 1stBooks, who want to do the job. The only difference is that this one is a publish for a fee company, which was what the original one was. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do, but one way or the other it will be made available to EA folks. I am really passionate about this story, I think it has a real message that should be told. There is no mention of castration or eunuchs in it, but it is, as my wife had told me, "disturbing, and so horribly true!"

Incidentally, the title of the book, and I absolutely refuse to change it, is "Blood Brothers."

If I do not have a contract before the new year, and maybe even if I do, I will be posting it in its entirety here on EA, assuming of course that I can do so, considering that there is no mention of castration or eunuchism.

don't lose heart, Charlieje, it's a known fact that there are sme in the publishing industry who are just downright stupid. there's this mild-manered little Southern fellow (okay, he really isn't that little -- he as put on some girth) who wrte his first book based on his life experiences in military school and shopped t around. the geniuses in the publishing world tod him the book would never sell, he wasn't talented, and the title "The Boo" was just stupid. not losing faith in his work, the writer self-published and became a critical success. now, Pat Conroy is an established author and able to do pretty much as he likes.

a similar thin happened to Tom Clancy with "The Hunt for Red October." no one wanted to publish it -- even he naval acdemy press tried to talk him out of publishing. look where clancy is today (and he got fat, too, come to think of it - is there a pattern emerging here?).

you will be published and able to blow razzberries at this publishing company when all is said and done.

Well, all the great advice and support notwithstanding, it's time for a timeout.

You're right, androboy, this is not the time to give up and I have no intention of doing so. But for now, it's party time!

Tonight my wife and I are going to a party, hopefully we will not be too late getting home and I will not be too drunk. Tomorrow morning at 5, we begin our annual pilgrimmage to Orlando. This year there are 7 adults and 6 children going, in (obviously) two vehicles. I am taking my laptop so I will be in touch, but limited by the speed of a modem.

As soon as we get back, on Dec. 22, it's all ahead full, fire both barrels, and put some books on the shelves!

Oh yeah, did I mention I am planning to submit Andy for publication? (toned down a bit, but the same basic story).

Again, thanks for all for your support and love...
