Testosterone acts similarily to SSRI or antidepressants

Now it is clear. Higher T levels increase also serotonin and dopamine levels in brain. That is why often times men whose T drops, are at risk of developing depression. More common is motivation and general interest reduction with lowered T.
Thus people who plan to become no T eunuchs should consider this. It would be not wise to get castrated while you already have depression. It is wise to get it done, when you feel relaxed and safe. Better in spring time. Don't hesitate use of SSRI drugs if you feel bad!

Interesting, though the article is behind a paywall

, so basically we can only see the abstract. The two thoughts that immediately occurred to me reading that which would be relevant to our crew....
1. Does supplemental T solve it, if so how much is needed (they seem to say more study is needed...)
2. What about using Estradiol ?

Use antidepressants in case of depression if you do not want to go back on T or E.

Thanks, it works now...
Interesting that they said they didn't find a linkage w/ E give that many here have reported that E helped with the depression they got with chemical or surgical castration...
I also noticed the exclusion of men that were fixed " A further 125 men were excluded due to history of orchidectomy (n=56) or the use of anti-androgen medication
(n=69)." Makes one wonder how many may have been voluntary as opposed to treatment for medical issues....
Going further out on the speculation - the authors suggested trialing T supplementation as an anti-depressant, but given that if a man was fixed because of prostate issues or other medical reasons, T would be contraindicated - Would E help in those cases?
(I'm on E and don't think I'm depressed...)
