I have been reading and occasionally posting in this community from very close to the beginning at BME. I feel the need to post my ideas now.
I have learned much over the years here that has had a decidedly positive impact on my life. Gained knowledge about other folks lives that without this community I would have no easy access to. This has decidedly changed my perspective for the positive but we dont talk politics here, do we.
Cleancut01s ideas that might be helpful to you if you pursuing transition. Know yourself! Not casually, very thoroughly and from the perspective of being self-aware of how others view you. Have intimate (not expert unless you have the licensed or academic credentials) knowledge of the process you are trying to undertake. This is about what professionals working with you have to accomplish to help you. Be able to easily convey all the possible side effects of your procedure, how that could affect you and your relationships and be able to present a reasoned, understandable mitigation strategy to those to the professional youre asking to help you. Understand possible alternatives to castration or transitions that professionals may recommend and be able to present reasoned or factual information on why you do not believe they are in your best interest. Be prepared to hear No a lot and often. Dont pout, get angry, act out or try and lie your way to the result you want. It will not improve your chances at getting the result you desire. The idea of voluntary castration for gender conformation or other reasons is at best repugnant to the vast majority of society. General society cannot nor will not discuss the idea in a rational manner. The stereotypes and prejudices held in general also affect professionals working with this community. As hard as many try to be neutral and rational in their reasoning, the societal drumbeat affects their thought processes.
Why would my opinions or beliefs make a difference? Why would I write now? I am a 67-year-old straight cis white male in a 40+ year marriage who has been seeking to become a Eunuch since after the birth of our two very successful kids 33 years ago. I have been threatened with involuntary commitment, Jail, asked to leave form professional setting numerous times. Always for simply asking if it was possible for me to become a Eunuch. Please be aware all those professionals were Trans friendly Most had written letters for folks transitioning. I was well aware of alternative methods to accomplish my goal, but I consistently choose to do this in the system. I believe the more often this is accomplished as society requests or requires the easier it will become for the next individual. But in all this I now have a letter (form a pro that regularly reject unprepared individuals) and a surgery date of August 15. This is mainly thanks to SOC-8, my knowledge gained in how the system works, and frankly the folks on this site.
