What license is required to legally castrate men in the United States? That is, can it be an RN, or nurse practitioner, or does it have to be a MD?

Anyone with a licensure level of Nurse (LVN, LPN, RN, NP) is generally not licensed to perform surgical procedures. They are nurses NOT doctors. I'd think this would be obvious, but here we are.

My ex is a DNP. He can do everything his supervising MD can, except surgery. To do surgery, generally you must have an MD or DO. Nurses cannot.

There was a group that embraced castration called Heaven's Gate that had an NP. A beautiful young man was castrated by her, and he had severe medical complications. Any surgery needs massive experience and education.

There was a great deal of things about the Heaven's Gate group that were seriously sketchy - to put it mildly... That they had an NP doing their castrations is certainly only one of them....

The morning Heaven's Gate was discovered, I visited friends in Los Angeles and remembered the non-stop local news coverage. From that, locals learned very important details. The men were all castrated. The group ate their last meal at Marie Calendars. The server said they all ordered the exact same thing. Chicken Pot Pie and cheesecake with blueberries.

This thread went off the rails quickly...

As I understand it, the HG folks went to Mexico for their surgeries. If a Nurse Practitioner did this to any of them, I'd certainly hope they lost their license. But given that was all more than 25 years ago, I'm not sure how it's relevant to the OP's question.

The only people who are legally able to perform a castration are medical doctors. It's as simple as that.

FWIW - from Wikipedia article.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaven%27 ... ous_group)

Eight of the male members of the group, including Applewhite, voluntarily underwent castration as an extreme means of maintaining the ascetic lifestyle.[88] The group initially attempted castration by having one of its members, a former nurse, perform the castration, but this attempt was unsuccessful, almost resulting in the patient's death, and caused at least one member to leave Heaven's Gate. Every castration that followed the first one was done in a hospital.[89]

One can always question accuracy of Wikipedia, but I wouldn't think this is an article that is likely to be messed with, so probably about right...

Also, I don't care all that much about HG, but I got curious and had a few minutes to waste on looking them up....
