Puzzled by this, an observation with androcur

Over a decade ago I tried chemical castration, what did the trick was cyproterone acetate combined with finasteride.
To cut a long story short, I was married at the time and I wanted to reduce my libido as i was in a sexless marriage. I ended up ceasing because of the dark feelings that I felt. Over about 6 months things returned to normal.
Both with my ex wife (to a small extent) and my new partner (24/7) I have worn a male chastity belt which is (now) inescapable, well not without serious injury or breaking the lock which is doable of course.
For the last 7 or 8 years I have worn a cage for almost constantly 24/7, except for when my partner wants sex.
One of the real challenges of wearing a device like this is the constant nocturnal erections. One can nearly be kept awake almost seemingly constantly by painful attempted erections, its usually associated with REM sleep, and eventually interrupted REM sleep is not real fun..
Over the years (about 14 years since I purchased my first device) the device selection has meant that these night time awakenings are much more tolerable, although its very annoying.
Now to the puzzle.
When I chem castrated myself it took quite a lot of Androcur and finasteride to get to the point where I couldn't really ejaculate, let along have a morning erection, it also took some weeks for the effects to be felt, taking 100mg per day of androcure and I think it was 5mg of finasteride.
Once things returned to normal, so did the night time awakenings.
Its taken years to find what works per the below but this is where I am now:
What I discovered however is if I take ONE 50mg tablet of Androcur, about 3-4 days later my night time awakenings will subside, IE not be as annoying and if I take a second pill my night time attempts will vanish for some weeks until they will gradually start to return.
But this seems inexplicable that such a small dose can have such a dramatic impact, even better its not enough to interfere with normal sexual function, or introduce dark feelings,
I was a lot younger than I am now when I chem castrated myself , I am now 57, but the nocturnal erections still hurt if I allow them to return fully. I cant wind the clock back to see if had of worked when i was younger.
I guess the question is how can such a low dose have this effect, I mean its actually really good, means I can sleep through with no disturbance.
I cant see such a low dose having anything but possibly beneficial effects.
As the title says I am puzzled by how this CAN work, but it just does.
