I noted the photo wasn't of the person arrested recently, and both articles went on at length about the Japanese person in the photo and what they did, and had very little to say other than calling people with dysphoria members of a cult. They clearly are going only for shock value or are being lazy in their reporting.

Scratch that, they're doing both.

I thought the media in the US was bad. Apparently in the UK the media is worse.

Same here. The site seemed a bit too cavalier about what they were doing, in my opinion, and I expected that the “band it twice, chop it off, and immediately go to the emergency room” technique they used would eventually catch up with them. Fortunately it ended before someone had a serious health consequence, or worse.

Jokes aside, because the "cult" thing is just rage-inducing and needs a dose of humor added to keep us from getting too pissed, please do use a legitimate doctor/surgeon. There are PLENTY of choices nowadays and I'm sure one of us will be happy to point you in the right direction.

The cult thing was sloppy and lazy reporting for no reason other than to get attention for those publications advertisers. What I'm frustrated about is the timing, as it's the last thing the community needs with the SOC due to be published soon.

A view from the UK ----

Things here are very bad at the moment from the perspective of sexual minority rights, and the country has been criticised internationally recently for rowing back on LGBT rights. All this falls into the same movement that is characterised by the 'gender critical' movement, which has been shown to be a smallish band of activists funded by the American right wing, aiming to destabilise the modern progressive consensus. The impact of this has been increased by a rightwing newspaper media, and by government appointments to institutions like the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) and EHRC (Equality and Human Rights Commission) made by the openly transphobic Minister for Women and Equalities. All of this has been called out by the majority of UK LGBT charities, and by respected international bodies. Indeed, New Zealand has even accepted trans people from the UK as recognised refugees.

Not all of the UK, or even the party in government, shares the regressive views, but the trouble is that people who are doing damage are in positions where they can. It is alarming and embarrassing as a UK citizen, and hopefully things change soon.
