HRT, Andropause, and Castration

In order to get a clearer idea around what I am feeling and thinking, I have started to read about andropause, or "grumpy old man syndrome".
Is it any wonder we make progress so slowly? First web site I went to, from an allegedly reputable company, suggests that poor sleep is often a symptom of low testosterone. Without even a hint of irony, they say that the solution is to get better sleep. No clues on how, just do it.
Likewise with loss of muscle mass and lack of motivation. The obvious solution- get more exercise. And these people want to be responsible for the health of others?
Google andropause, or worse, male menopause, and you'll see.
Anyway, as might be expected, a lot of what I'm thinking and feeling fits well with the published lists of symptoms, and I'm already a little familiar with them, as they are the same as castration would produce, just with more variation in levels.
The thing is, in spite of an ageing population, bugger all research is being done, and these "health" web sites are starting to sound just like the quack sites they would put down. Nothing but poor thinking and the resultant load of baloney. After visiting a few of them, the trend appears to be, if you have these symptoms, act as if you didn't- that'll fix it.
In any case, I think that this should be a first point of entry for me. I think I shall go see my GP to have some blood tests done. Regardless of outcome, the results would be interesting.
To my mind, if the nuts are no longer doing the job and I'll need a supplement, lets just go the whole hog. Give me the appearance I want, and some emotional relief too. Makes sense to me.
The only thing, and it's no trivial thing, that doesn't fit is the up and down again sex drive. It comes and goes, seemingly randomly. The intervals can be as little as days, and as long as months between episodes. But when it does come, it's fierce, and I'm sick of it.
