Intense Insomnia

Lately I've been experiencing severe insomnia. Is this normal for low T?

I've been going the chemical / herbal route with Vitex and saw Palmetto.

I've had great results that align with my goals, with the exception of the insomnia.

I've been taking Saw Palmetto for two months and vitex for just over two weeks. The insomnia started about two days after starting the vitex. I wanted to get your options if this insomnia temporary? Will the insomnia subside over time like hot flashes? If so how long do you think it would take? I plan on taking Spiro soon, has anyone experienced insomnia with Spiro?

I am hoping to start MtF HRT so the herbal route is not a long term solution. Just a stop gap.

I have low testosterone and I often have insomnia, but I always try to avoid intake of sleeping pill, alcohol and other.

I made transition of MtF in the surgical way. HRT helped me in every respect. I needed to observe the normal day mode then. Had no insomnia.

Now I do not take testosterone, I sit at the computer at night, I sleep during the day whenever I want. I try to ignore insomnia.

Hi Hummus,

I experienced insomnia while taking vitex. I would wake up during the night and night longer feel tired or I would experience a physiological panic response to things that I don’t find actually threatening (e.g. a car would drive by my house and my heart would start racing).

My goal with vitex is to reduce libido. So my solution to stop the insomnia was to stop taking vitex until I notice an increase in libido, and then begin taking it again.

As I understand it, vitex is a powerful phytoestrogen. Maybe it is easy to get too much?

I too experience difficulty sleeping when my hormone levels are low, and while I don't know if it would be permanent, it persists for as long as I don't take hormones. Something that I have had luck with is hops. It is a supplement that you can find in many stores, at least where I live. When I use it, I squeeze some of it into water shortly before bedtime, and while the taste isn't the most pleasant, it does the job well.

Hops contain phytoestrogens though, so I would not take both hops and E concurrently since I've heard that phytoestrogens can reduce the efficacy of the real thing.

I think you have the answer. I am going to cut the dosage in half for a week and see how that goes. Right now I am taking 400g twice a day. I'll try taking one in the morning instead.

If that still doesn't get me a few more hours of sleep I'll have to try your stop start method..

Thank you for the advice!
