I think the reason why so many transgender kids are drawn to mermaids is their lack of genitals.

In youth pulled me to mermaids too: liked to float in a rubber diving suit. Sometimes dressed a diving suit of the house and pumped out air from a suit which was dry type, that is tight. It was pleasant to feel when all body was fitted by rubber tightly...

Yes, it was very enjoyable.
Although, I'd like to add a (trigger) warning: Brace yourself, expecially when you're a very empathetic trans person. Took me an hour to watch it completely.
