WARNING:I have been approached through a third party for a media interview request, which I've politely declined. What this means for the eunuch community is a new person is out and about, this time a writer from The Daily Beast named Mark Hay, seeking interviews from members of the community for a new article they are writing about nullos, eunuchs, and cutters. Given past experiences this community has suffered, I would advise STRONGLY anyone approached to DECLINE any media interview, no matter how adamant the interviewer is this article will be different than all the rest or show the community in a positive light.

We've seen and heard this all before, and it has almost without fail ended horribly for our community. With almost no exception, this community has been taken advantage of being told we'll be presented in a fair way, and then having an article or "documentary" come out as a result of those interviews, with our members quoted severely out of context and made to look like freaks.

Again, I can't tell any individual what to do, but I can advise strongly declining any interview request. Please don't be the next media victim in our community.

I was one of the people he hit up on Twitter. I was particularly annoyed that his message had a one sentence acknowledgment of the legitimate surgery route (which was my journey) and then spent the rest of the message asking me all kinds of questions about cutters. Maybe I should be grateful he made his intent for the article so obvious?

I know at least one member of the community already responded, and I think another is planning to. It does feel like we're damned if we participate and our good intent gets twisted, and damned if we don't and let the most colorful characters in our community tell the story for us.

I would suggest referring them to an article published in 2017 by Diana Tourjée, title: "Why Some Men Choose To Surgically Remove Their Penis." It did not seem to try to sensationalize or "put down" the eunuch community and seemed relatively well-balanced. I'm pretty sure googling will turn it up immediately; if not I can post a link. It might even be instructive to ask your questioner what he was thinking of publishing beyond that. (Bwaa-Haa-Haa)

While we can hope this will be the case this time, it has been the exception and not the norm. I do not expect an article to completely flattering nor encourage others to do this, but the normal experience is an article which sets us back, not forward.
