Surgical castration what anesthesia?
I will be castrated in a few months, so I would like to have the advice of those who have lived this experience.
What do you think is the best way to operate, general, partial, local anesthesia?
What do you think are the advantages or disadvantages of these methods?
I do not know yet if my urologist will leave me the choice or if he has his protocol which does not vary, but in case I have the choice, I would like to know what to expect.

My doctor would not do it with a local no matter how much I pleaded with him. It is way cheaper that way. I did have my scrotectomy months later with just a local however. I didn't mind it at all.

Why did you have a scrotectomy months later?
Isn't it possible to do everything the same day?

Yes it is possible if the doctor is willing. In my case he was not. He had experience with orchiectomies, but not scrotectomies. I didn't want to waste time looking for a doctor that would do it all since to me the orchi was more important than the scrotectomy. Months after the orchi I found a doctor who would do the scrotectomy in his office with local anesthetic.

General with propothol followed by a short-term memory knock-out of versed. Very easily tolerated in that you come up from anesthesia without so much anesthesia hangover and a much faster recovery time.

It seem to be a doctors preference. No real reasons why to use general anesthesia. For doctor it seem to be easier if it is done under general anesthesia, as patient is completely relaxed and can not interfere in anyway. But certainly, general anesthesia has its own risks that some doctors are not willing to take. Sometimes doctors accept patients requests, sometimes not.

Maybe you are right, but I will try to get a local anesthesia, so that I can attend my castration.
It is not for fear of general anesthesia, but I find and I think I would regret if I did not feel everything that is happening, when I say feel I am talking about the touch, not the pain well obviously.

Mine was just the opposite -- Dr. removed my testicles with local anesthesia only, but wanted me under general to do the scrotum removal. General anethesia is harder on the body and riskier, but with local, there is more chance of you moving around when Dr. does not want you to.

My doc did general. He said that he wanted to get a lot of the cord. May be uncomfortable under just local.

Or your doctor felt that you could not assume to attend your own castration, which can be understood, I do not see what the length of the cord is doing there.
I am personally very divided between the two types of anesthesia, the general one where we are not traumatized, we wake up and it's done, and the local where in a somewhat submissive position, legs apart, we sees the surgeon using his tools, even scissors, terrible symbols of castration that we have so dreaded a large part of our life. At the same time, this surgery, so frightening, can also be, if we are able to look it in the face, a source of memory, and of excitement such as we rarely experience in life.
