In my opinion, we are being inundated by fake videos from both sides of issues now. My bullshit meter is based on hot buttons. When I see something that touches a hot button, it is bullshit in my book. Is there a better place to get an honest opinion on what is real besides my bullshit meter?

Fake news. Fake videos. I could cite examples from both ends of the spectrum but don't want to get political. I have seen a few that are hilariousl, except they are real to the person emailing them.

Inundated maybe too strong, but I see a person every two or three days whose views are not exactly mine. We still talk about stuff and are able to tell each other what each doesn't believe. That does not mean that what to me is bullshit could not be real. I'd be interested if there are fact and video check sites out there which have a reasonable reputation.

My family and friends know not to bring up politics with me. Here are my typical responses depending on what they are complaining about:

1. "Wow, Imagine that Politics breaking out in Washington, Who would have thought it."

2. "We killed our TV subscription two years ago and I get all my news by reading original sources. So, I haven't heard that."

(it's true we did kill our TV subscriptions except for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Roku Channel and Tubi - none have news(.

3. "Yeah? Well as long as they spelled His/Her name right. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Washington is just Hollywood for ugly people."

4. "It's easier to see a speck of sawdust in someone else's eye than a log in your own. Someone important said that I think."

They all know I won't argue with them. I think they are just tired of hearing my standard lines. Now, we talk about how adorable my new 2-year-old great-niece is, How nice my brother's new home is, where we are going on vacation when the world comes back to sanity and, of course, the latest cute kitten videos on the youtube.

When I want the young folk to think I'm stupid I call it "the google", "the youtube" and "the facebook".

That was pretty much the tack at the pre-COVID old farts coffee klatch at McDs. I became a UTEP fan for amusing conversations. That also is the usual social norm in cultures with a lot of mix.
