Dave Craps on another movie - DARK PHOENIX

Post by Dave (imported) »

The other night I watched DARK PHOENIX which is latest in the X-MEN Marvel universe (NOT the Avengers Marvel Universe)... This is the lesser mutant superhero filling the vacuum for people who think never-ending tales of superheroes and dastardly villains and something special . . .

Jean Grey of the X-Men is orphaned at eight years old when her mental powers overwhelm her parents and they wreck the car killing her mother. He father doesn't want this mutant child and gives her to Professor Xavier who screws up her memories so she forgets killing her mother and her father's abandonment.

Years and years later, Jean Grey has to help an outer space rescue with the other X-Men and after being caught in a Solar Flare that is really the "Phoenix" that created the universe it so powerful... becomes THE DARK PHOENIX and exhibits universe-ending powers.

Oh horrors, I just wet my panties in fear...

Meanwhile, a race of shape-shifting aliens headed by VUK wants this "phoenix" power to recreate the universe in their image and likeness which means betraying everything else in the universe. So that's the plot - Professor Xavier can't mentally control Jean Gray, Jean goes on a binge of destruction. The VUK go on a binges of even more violent destruction and the X-Men must save the world and all of use mortal beings.

This "Dark Phoenix" movie is a brain pharte. The "Dark Phoenix" legend of the comic books different and better explains. While the movie entertains with enough mindless action and superhero/mutant fights to entertain, it assumes that the audience will be awed and wowed by superficial character-development and meaningless dialog. It's all shallow words between action pieces. The action pieces are great and satisfy but the story being told is done in the most shallow and threadbare characterizations possible. A truly pathetic at every thing but the eye-candy, screen blasting light show.
