Huntress by Htabdoolb was certainly a daring story and it accomplished what I would have considered impossible. That is to say that, for the first time in my life, I’m considering becoming a vegetarian. As a direct result of reading it I haven’t eaten meat for days.

But I think in some ways the story fell short. What defined Captain Ahab was not the fact that he was the captain of a whaling ship. What made Ahab who he was was his obsession with one whale in particular, and that was of course Moby Dick. If there wasn’t a Moby Dick there wouldn’t have been a Captain Ahab.

What made the movie The Hunger Games so horribly powerful was that the kids who were to be hunted were introduced to us ahead of time so that we knew who they were. I cried when the little curly haired blond boy was hacked to death. It was like killing Bambi.

It would have been a more interesting story if the Huntress had been out to bag one boy in particular, or if she had some idea of who these boys were ahead of time. The great hunter isn’t just out to bag any old generic tiger, he wants the legendary White Tiger.

Interesting point. However, having read some of Htabdoolb’s other work, a common theme seems to be of trivialising the male characters and their body’s in favour of strong female characters. In this case the central male character was treated like a disposable commodity, an object that could be discarded. Had the protagonist actively pursued or hunted him, it would have placed greater emphasis on him and his body as something to be desired or valued. This may have made an interesting story, but would not seem to be the theme that the author was going for.

I agree with geordie above and that is exactly what the author was intending. The males are of little consequence and are literally reduced to the role of meat. That IS the hook of the story and to me, it it what makes it work so perfectly. I found the story incredibly intense, hot. He isn't here to write a drama, but porn lol.
