MORTAL ENGINES (2018) Dave doesnt quite know what to do with Mortal Engines
Its a Steampunk festival of big machines, huge machines, gargantuan gears, metal, armor, bigger gears: Steampunk in all its Glory. This film is visually stunning. Anytime the story (such as it is) lags there is another special effect that delights.
The story: After the War that ended society and shattered continents, In the WEST, the survivors banded together and built cities that travel on legs, treadles, and wheels powered by steam power. They scavenge the remains and the last of the food supplies. In the EAST, the STATICS (who still live in cities) built a giant wall to keep the motorized cities away. One of these cities - London - crosses from the West and moves to conquer the East with a weapon from the past - - a Quantum Ray that destroys everything in its path in seconds. The children of the survivors must fight against this threat to stop the invasion.
Theres a Luke I am your father and an undead robot with green eyes, flying machines, sword fights, Huge wheels, blasted landscapes, slave auctions, and a really spectacular quantum ray beam that blasts away. The Villains are villains and the good guys are good guys.
But this isnt The Lord of the Rings or the Chronicles of Narnia.
When all is said and done, its enjoyable and fun to watch.
The true test of "Will Dave crap on a movie" if I enjoy it enough to watch more than once and MORTAL ENGINES is visually entertaining with all those huge machines and steampunk sets.
