This past Tuesday [June 25] I had my orchiectomy. I have had only one testicle since my early 30s [lost it due to torsion issues]. In May of this year I had a lump, went to the doctor, did a biopsy, told it was cancerous, given my options, I told them I want it off - I want the top survival rate. So, with the support of my wife, my urologist removed it. She did a rather nice job. Some swelling yes, and sore, but not bad. Rest, no lifting, no sex. I'm 55, wife is 50.

Hope things continue to work out positive for you. I'm sure this was the best thing and now you can rest a little easier.

Welcome to the Archive. You'll find a wealth of information here. I expect that you will have questions about the impact of your orchiectomy. Feel free to ask them. You'll get good advice and many stories of personal experience to help you.

Welcome to the eunuch brotherhood. Never let anyone make you feel you are a lessor man for having made the choice you made. Had I been you, She would have had to remove the testice without biopsy or I would have found a doc who would. In so many cases a biopsy spreads the cancer beyond control. You definetly have a winner in the wife dept, as so many gals leave at the words TC as they don't want to stick by their man.

Hi and welcome.
I hope the follow up treatment works out well for you.
Once done with the chemo (If you are having it) you should go on to have a normal and in some cases better sex life
depending on the quality of hormone replacement therapy you get.

Welcome to this website. Glad to have another fully grown testicular torsion man join ! Most drs don t think us grown men can or do get torsions after the teens or early 20s. They wrongly think only males under 21 get torsions. That leaves us grown men more likely to get no care or delayed care that leaves us with more testicle damages from lack of blood flow. Also, drs wrongly think only unbelievable pain can be torsions. Calmly standing in front of an Emergency Room dr at 3:00 am and showing him my twisted testicle with my epididymis facing at least 180 degrees forward and my left ball hanging sideways, crooked, and half way up my long scrotum because of twisted nut cords was his first testicular torsion ever. He first said it was impossible in a grown man and not painful enough to be a torsion. But feeling my left ball and twisted cords in my scrotum convinced him it was a true torsion without any doubt. He brought in all the ER staff to study me and verify my torsion as a group learning experience and left my ball torsioned for more than an hour calling urologists on call to decide how to treat me. I m guessing they wanted to see if it was some kind of self caused artificial torsion that would unwind if I stayed naked and under observation. But it stayed twisted all by itself like a genuine torsion. Delaying rescuing my left nut that whole time.
Sounds like your torsion was not treated quickly enough to save your testicle. Sorry to hear you lost one testicle to it. I m guessing your remaining ball did the full work of two balls and gave you all the sexual ability, sex drive, kids, and masculinization you wanted from it until your recent castration.
Honestly, your age is a pretty ideal age to castrate a man. Past most impregnating desires and after a long and glorious sex life and youth You are so lucky to be in a strong marriage with an understanding wife. You definitely made the safest choice for your health. You likey surprised your dr with having yet another testicle problem that is usually considered more of a young man s disease since testicular cancer is most found in men younger than 35 years old. Fate and mother nature were determined to steer you one way or another.
You ll find tons of information on this site in past posts and articles that you can read. The men and eunuchs on here know way more than most endocrinologists and from years of first hand experiences totally hundreds of years of eunuch hormone adjustments and experiences. You sure came to the right place.
Welcome. .

" as in the case of testicular cancer a Biopsy insanely increase the risk of spreading cancerous cells through your body. An ultrasound or any other noninvasive test should have been done. My urologist said that in cases where there is any reason to believe the teste is cancerous an Orchie is the preferred method and sending it off to pathology. Keep an eye on your health and good luck and welcome to the brother and sisterhood.

I talked to my doctor and she said no biopsy was done. I just, in my ignorance, assumed one was done. I had an ultrasound followed by an MRI. There has been no spread. A biopsy was done after removal confirming a very tiny tumour.

MRI or CT? I had CT for all my testicular cancer staging and surveillance.
Do you know the histology of the tumour or whether you had vascular involvement? Embryonal carcinoma and vascular involvement are the main risk factors for a recurrence (note: I am not a physician, just a self-educated patient). The older you are, the more likely you are to have pure seminoma, which is slower growing and has a lower risk of recurrence and a higher survival rate. I take it that your tumour markers were all negative post-orchidectomy or you would be having further treatment. Any positive markers beforehand?
I had a tiny tumour and negative markers, but despite age >40, mine was 80% embryonal carcinoma (stage I nonseminoma). After a year on surveillance, I had an 8 cm recurrence in my lung (biopsy proven 100% embryonal carcinoma, stage IIIB nonseminoma), 12 weeks of chemo, and a lobectomy. Still in remission after 30 months.
Testicular cancer is the golden child of medical oncology: always treated with curative intent, and even stage IIIC (there is no stage IV) has a 70% five-year disease-specific survival, with a small risk of becoming a filthy drug cheat and winning the Tour de France several times.
