Current Fee for Dr. Arnkoff

Hello all, I searched fairly extensively but could not find anything recent. I am wondering what Dr. Arnkoff changes for a simple orchiectomy these days?

I have just scheduled a consult with a Dr. in Charlotte, NC. Her fee is $4,500 for orchiectomy or $4,950 with scrotal excision. I want to do a rough cost comparison between her fees (with no travel costs other than a few gallons of gas) and Dr. A's fees, including airfare, hotel, restaurant, etc. I would really prefer to get this done locally. I actually dread spending a day traveling from Michigan to SC after getting surgery in a fairly delicate area. Much better to carefully get in the car and walk in my door an hour and a half later..... I also have to add in the cost of a letter from one licensed mental health professional. I am OK with that.

Been lurking on here for years. I have been on Androcur / Tamoxifen for several years now. Ready to quit taking meds. Wife is onboard, so I just need to talk to a shrink and convince him or her I am reasonably sane.

Thanks!

First, congrats on pursuing your goal.

Second, Let's assume Dr. A is still $3500. Airfare will be at least $300 depending on how much advance notice you have to arrange it. Then add several nights in a hotel (can run about $500-$700 for decent accomodation),etc. then add in $150 for food, depending on how frugal you wish to be, and you're already past the $1000 difference in price between Dr. A. and this doc who is closer to your home. In your situation I'd go with the one close to where you live for a couple of reasons. 1. Your travel time to and from is a lot less (and a lot less difficult on your body as you've noted), and 2. You're in your own home, with access to your own local doctor should something go wrong.

I understand folks often have budget constraints, but this is your body you're talking about. This isn't the time to be budget conscious over this small of a difference. After all you're not buying a toaster, you're getting irreversible surgery done to your body.

I wish you well and look forward to welcoming you as a fellow eunuch after you've reached the goal.

Thanks! I am very excited! I concur 100% on your assessment. However, if it was significantly cheaper, I would go to Michigan. ASSUMING Dr. A is still $3500, I did a quick Expedia check for hotel and airfare and added in food, for two, mind you. It comes out ~$200 cheaper to go the Charlotte, assuming simple orchiectomy and ~$240 more if I get the scrotum removed at the same time. I read in another post that Dr A. is good with the orch part, but not quite as good with the scrotum part. Examples of scrotum removal work for the doctor I will be seeing are here: https://cosmeticconciergemd.com/wp-cont ... _3pics.jpg. I think I will be going to Charlotte. (While reviewing this prior to posting, I realized I forgot a rental car! So, it is cheaper for me to get my scrotum removed in Charlotte than only my testicles in Michigan. Done deal!

If anyone is interested, I can start another thread with updates on my progress. I am not overly verbose, however. I have learned a lot from Eunuch.org over the years and am more than willing to contribute if any input I may have is deemed worthy.

You might want to check to make sure Dr. A will do scrotum removal at same time as orchiectomy. I thought I read sometime ago that he wanted patients to wait 6 mo or a year or so after castration before scrotum removal. So that might be another reason for going to Dr. in NC if she will do both at same time. I had both nutz and sac removed at same time in Phoenix.

When I had Dr. A perform my Orchie, the associated travel costs added up to an additional $1000.00 over his fee for plane tickets, rental car, hotel, food etc. Last I heard, he does not like to do a scrotectomy at the same time and it was a chunk more change than the $450.00 she's asking for, and I mean a real chunk more. Add to that the fact that while Dr. A is okay for a simple Orchie, the rest of his surgical skills leave a lot to be desired. I'd heard stories about some of his work but didn't really believe them so I had to go looking for pictures since I was trying to get things lined up for a total Penectomy. I was totally aghast at what I saw and with that in mind, I'd say it's a toss up on costs assuming Dr. A is still at $3500.00 and you'll most likely have a better outcome with the other Doctor. Most of the Surgeons who do Transgender, or Gender non-conforming surgeries, have pictures of their work, why don't you inquire if she has any you could see?

I have decided to go with the Doctor in NC. How was your recovery getting both removed at the same time? I am pretty sure I am going to get both done also. I do not want a loose empty sac hanging there getting caught in my underwear all the time! I will just deal with the extra recovery period somehow. I am not one to sit still for long.

Thanks! She does have some photos up on her site.
Her work looks pretty good to me!

Recovery was not that bad. I had testicles and sac removed on a Monday and flew back on Wednesday. Could have gone back to work at desk job on Friday but had week off. Just need to be careful not to open the sutures, as it will be long incision. Healed up nicely in 2-3 weeks. Only downsides of having ballsac removed that i can think of is that you might want fake nutz put in later, or penis implants (for ED) which i think require the pump be placed in the scrotum. Also, you will lose the sensations of playing with your yam sac, which has alot of nerve endings and pleasure sensors in it. Upside is you won't funk up ur undies with sweaty ballsac and will stay fresh and clean smelling down there... nothing to sweat up so no musky dude smell.

Cw1911nr, you and I are working with the same provider. I would definitely rather work local than with Dr A that far away. I also believe the provider will do an excellent job. I have been to my consult already. I am now working on getting a letter. Frankly it will probably take me a year for that rather than 3 visits because I enjoy challenging myself and making things better for those that follow this path. Good Luck and let us know how things are progressing.
