Hi,
I am wondering what effects chemical castration techniques, androcur for eg, will have on the prostate?

My PSA dropped in half and urination is much easier following several months on Androcur. My internist has stopped doing a routine digital rectal exam, but I'm sure my prostate has gotten appreciably smaller.

I didn't have any issues prior to starting chem cast with Depo Provera and don't remember any other issues. I'm sure it all works together however. Didn't think about checking PSA during the trials.

Hey @Annual20007,
There are two main problems that the prostate can cause.
First is BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or enlarged prostate. It is caused by DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which is a hormone made from testosterone. DHT plays a role in several secondary and tertiary sexual characteristics - including male pattern baldness and BPH.
Finasteride is a DHT blocker and is used to treat both male pattern baldness and enlarged prostate by inhibiting testosterone from converting into DHT. With no DHT, the prostate shrinks.
Logic would dictate that if there is little to no testosterone in a man's system, then very little DHT would be created and any enlargement of the prostate would be reversed or inhibited the same as with a DHT blocker.
The second role is with aggressive prostate cancer. Not all prostate cancers are testosterone dependent. However, if a man has a prostate cancer that will only grow in the presence of testosterone, then removing testosterone from the body (either through chemical or physical castration) can stop the cancer from spreading and even allow chemo, radiation and surgery to cure the cancer that is in the body.
So, the effects on the prostate with chemical castration would be to eliminate DHT (and thus reverse or prevent prostate enlargement) and to help prevent any testosterone dependent prostate cancer (remember, most prostate cancer is not testosterone dependent).

Oh wow, such a full answer. Thank you very much. How does it affect stimulation of the prostate? Is it likely to make the effects of that harder to achieve? Near impossible?

Everyone's anatomy is different. Some men's prostates are further towards the rectum than other men's. Chem castration isn't going to shrink a man's prostate if it isn't enlarged from BPH.
If prostate stimulation was possible via a dildo or cock in the rectum prior to chem castration, then there isn't really any reason to think stimulating the prostate would be any different after either chem or physical castration.
But, that doesn't bring into account libido. The prostate might still be in the same position for anal stimulation, but if a man's libido is suppressed or even eliminated, then will he want a dildo or cock in his rectum to stimulate his prostate?

I wasn't diagnosed with BPH but the steady rise in PSA over the past few years indicates that I probably have/had it.

As far as I know, any kind of chemical castration will shrink the prostate. I tried Cyproterone Acetate (CA) about 10 years back (to lower my sex drive) and within a day of starting I could feel my urine flow was increasing so that meant my prostate was shrinking already. I didn't stay on CA because the side effects bothered me badly (hot flushes were bad, and I was losing sleep) and have not used any since. But my prostate is now enlarged and my urologist has offered TURP (surgical procedure to 'core' out the prostate) or Finasteride to make it shrink. I'm nervous about the possibility of TURP causing urinary incontinence and/or impotence, so I think I'll opt for Finasteride.

ask about urolift procedure I had it done for an enlarged prostate and it worked and there is no cutting done they just put anchors through prostate and pull them tight opening the urethra you have a catheter for a couple days and a little bleeding for a few days. mine was done a few years ago and I'm still happy with the results. its a same day procedure and they just use twilight sedation and you go home later that day.

Hey thanks Cesleyt. I have looked at a web page about Urolift and it looks clever. I wonder how long it will work for before further prostate enlargement reduces flow again?
