Anyone a Charmed fan? The power of three will set you free.
The original Charmed series ran from 1998 through 2006. The protagonists were four straight white sisters, played by Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and, after Doherty's exit, Rose McGowan. The plots were rarely preachy, simply assuming the power of four strong, resourceful women who happened to be witches.
Cut to 2018. The three Charmed Ones, played by Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock and Sarah Jeffery, are now non-white. One is black, two are Latina, and one is a lesbian. To their credit, the producers, at least through the first six episodes, have not played the race card. The plot lines would have worked in the original series just as well.
So, questions well up in my dim mind.
A. Is this an attempt to address social issues that have heightened since the first series was cast twenty years ago?
B. Is this an answer to the entertainment industry's call for greater diversity?
C. Cynically, is this a dollar-bill decision of the CW and show producers to appeal to a wider audience?
Or, all of the above.
Whatever the reasoning, as a pagan I welcome Charmed in any flavor. Like sex, or barbeque, even when it's bad, it's good.
And isn't Sarah Jeffery just the cutest thing?

Re: Charmed - the Reboot
Seems that writers have run out of ideas. Everything is being rebooted and remade, I think.
