The case is particularly bad because after the midwife cut off the glans, she and some other doctors dismissed the severity of it, didn't tell the mother, and put the severed piece in the refrigerator but without giving advice to see someone who might be able to repair it.

A Georgia jury has awarded a five-year-old boy $31 million for a botched circumcision he received from a midwife when he was a newborn.
The boy, who is only referred to as DJ, was given the circumcision at Life Cycle Pediatrics in Riverdale when he was just 18 days old in 2013.
A lawsuit filed by the boy's family said part of his penis was severed during the procedure but clinic staff sent him home bleeding instead of trying to get it reattached.
Midwife Melissa Jones and Dr Brian Register were found liable last Friday when the jury handed down their decision.
The family's attorney, Neal Pope, detailed the horror procedure during the two-week court proceedings, WSB Radio reports.
Pope showed jurors the metal instrument, a Mogen clamp, that was used when the tip of the boy's penis was amputated.
He said the boy's mother wasn't told that his penis had been severed and nobody, including Jones and Register, recommended emergency surgery to fix the problem.
Pope said the pair stored the boy's severed tissue in a fridge and allowed the baby's mother to take him home. The lawsuit says the tissue was thrown out months later when it became apparent that legal action was imminent.

The attorney argued that if the boy had been sent to the emergency room with the severed tissue, medical staff might have been able to reattach it.
Instead, the boy was left disfigured and in constant pain.
The boy's mother said she had to put a medical instrument in his penis three times a day so it wouldn't close up after the procedure.
He has endured five surgeries to enable him to urinate more easily and potentially make it possible for him to have children in the future.

The court heard that the boy is also in a constant state of healing from the surgeries and has to remove scabbing just to urinate.
He will be evaluated for more surgeries when he hits puberty.
Pope showed jurors color photographs of the boy's penis to show what it looked like as recently as last month.
The lawsuit says the boy will have a lifetime of mental anguish as a result of the circumcision.
The attorney brought the little boy into the courtroom during the proceedings and asked him to say hello to the jury.
Attorney Terrell W. Benton, who represents the nurse midwife and physician, had told jurors that $1 million should cover the boy's medical expenses and costs of long-term therapy.
But his attorney declared it was a $100 million case.
