Using HTML in Stories

I've seen some fiction stories that have some HTML code in them.

I've seen <em></em> which seems to present as italics in my browser.

Also, I've seen bold text as well. But, I didn't check the source code to see if it's <B></b> or not.

Some stories could benefit from using simple HTML to distinguish time lines or thoughts that a character is fantasizing rather than action that is happening.
