Today (Wed) was the day, went into hospital for a hydroseal repair and came out with a full surgical castration.

Its not too bad at the moment, 11 hours later and hardly even an ache , fingers crossed it stays that way.

Good luck. I picked up from your prior posts that you were/are ambivalent about castration. I sense that beating your prostate cancer is your bigger concern.

I wasn't ambivalent about it, I wanted to talk to people who had had it done and were not on a T supplement.

At my age 71 the loss of my balls means very little to me, and have seen the results of chemical castration (my son in law) and didn't really want to go down that road.

As for prostate cancer, your right it is a major concern, I had my prostate out nearly 8 years ago and now it has returned and in my sternum. If you have ever had hydroseal you will know the pain that can cause, so surgical castration welcome.

How did your surgery change from a hydrocele repair to a full double castration ?

Did your dr just decide your prostate cancer would improve with the lack of testosterone and he decided on a full castration to cut both balls off after he saw the amount of work involved in fixing the water sack hydrocele ?

I m guessing you wanted a full castration and had talked to him about your wanting surgical castration instead of chemical before he removed your testicles ?

Some men do wake up from surgery surprized they are fully castrated. Did he tell you he might remove both balls before you went into surgery ?

Sorry to hear about your son in law. Two men in the same family but in different generations both being fully castrated. You were the lucky one lasting a generation longer as a full man than your son in law. Was he an extra high testosterone level man or a high family history of getting prostate cancer younger ?

What did you see in chemical castration in him that made you want surgical castration instead ?

At least you have another man going through castration to talk to and compare experiences with as both of you face prostate cancer together. I hope that helps both of you more than facing it by yourselves.

When I saw my urologist about my cancer he sent me to an oncologist, long story short the oncologist started me on zoladex (chemical)

at my next visit to my urologist we were discussing my hydraseal opp, when he said he can always do a full castration while he was in there fixing 2 problems at once.

That was to option I took, but I was only booked in to have that done, my doctor suggested if I still wanted to go that way he can do both straight away, so you can see it was no surprise waking up and finding I had been castrated.

As for my son in law, they still has the choice of stopping the chemicals and he will return to fully functioning, at his age 49 its the only sensible option really

Great to hear your dr discussed it all with your before the surgery and you got your first choice accomplished in one surgery.

Its good to hear your younger son in law is keeping his options open at his age and keeping his balls for possible future use and enjoyment.

Do you feel any major changes in your mind or body yet from your loss of testosterone ?

Very true my friend, beating the cancer is the main focus. I think from reading your post we differ in as much as I wanted to be castrated and surgical was my first option, which im glad has happened, for starters no more balls the size chook eggs. And thank you for the best wishes :)
