FAYETTEVILLE — A Cumberland County woman was arrested on Monday and charged with a string of crimes including rape, malicious castration, human trafficking, first-degree kidnapping, promoting prostitution and robbery.

Candace Grantham, 31, was arrested after Cumberland County deputies searched her home on Monday, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

According to Cumberland County inmate records, her charges include: First-degree forcible rape; robbery with a firearm or other weapon; conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon; misdemeanor larceny; human trafficking of an adult victim; promoting prostitution; maintaining a place of prostitution; malicious castration; first-degree force sex offense; first-degree kidnapping; solicit prostitution; and elony conspiracy.

According to North Carolina state statute, malicious castration occurs when a person “unlawfully castrates any other person, or cuts off, maims or disfigures any of the privy members of any person, with intent to murder, maim, disfigure, disable or render impotent such person” with “malice aforethought.”

Malicious castration is a class C felony in North Carolina. If convicted, Class C felonies in North Carolina typically carry a sentence of 44-182 months.

Grantham was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on Monday. Her bond was set at $250,000.

I think by the definition of malicious castration according to the article it can be to a male or a female. It probably relates to "maiming of the privates". Reading another article it sounds like this alleged crime were perpetrated against a woman and not a man. I do not know the reputation of the sources so it is hard to gauge the quality of reporting. If it were in a U.K redtop I would know not to believe one word of it!

They didn't say if she is single. Sounds perfect for me since they didn't include murder as a charge. Hard to find a perfect match

Supposition: a Dominatrix who believed in her own Dungeon just a little too much?

Possibly, but I am a cynical sort of person who has a very real problem with any authority figures. Whenever I see a story like this, my mind goes to the image of some show-boating cop, or cop wannabe "confidential informant" looking to make national news out of a completely contrived "crime." Reading this story, I seriously believe that it was entirely possible that the accused woman may have only been doing what a paying client had asked her to do so that they could have a simulated sex fantasy. As for the "malicious castration," the definition given in the story could have involved nothing more than a "chastity cage" device or a genital piercing.

I can very easily see that some hateful sort of person, who just couldn't tolerate other people doing something odd, decided to really blow this whole thing out of proportion - "making a mountain out of a mole hill." I remember an old friend of mine pointing out that if a state trooper decides that someone they have stopped is "flunking the attitude test" (that is being a total asshole), then the state trooper can become very specific about crimes and their definitions, for example, did you know that dropping a lit cigarette but and stamping it out while you are at the side of the road (presumably while you are "flunking the attitude test" as some cop is writing a ticket) actually does meet the criminal definition of "placing a burning object on the highway," a very serious crime. Now in all likelihood, such a case would eventually be dismissed, but it would still be a valid arrest and allow the cop to haul you off to jail.

JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - A Jacksonville woman accused of castrating her boyfriend by biting and permanently disfiguring a man's testicles had a trial delayed again after it was slated for Tuesday.

Martinne Delavega is facing felony counts of malicious castration and assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with the September 2015 incident.

The 51-year-old rejected a plea deal offered in October 2016. The Onslow County Sheriff's Office did not name the victim so as to protect the individual's privacy.

Could be similar circumstances?
