A WOMAN in Nanshan District was detained after she severed her boyfriend's penis in a rage Tuesday, suspecting he was having an affair with another woman.
The woman, 24, a Henan migrant, said she now regrets what she did. Police withheld her full name and gave her surname as Wang, as investigations are under way.
The man, a Hunan migrant surnamed Yi in his 20s, is being treated in Xili People's Hospital. He would not speak to reporters after the incident. Though in a stable condition, he is unlikely to have his penis reattached, since the woman flushed it down the toilet, the Daily Sunshine said yesterday.
"He told me his girlfriend quarreled with him. She severed his penis in a rage and flushed it down the toilet. His co-worker tried in vain to find it in his rented apartment," a doctor at the hospital told the paper.
A neighbor said he saw the couple quarreling on the staircase of their rented apartment in Tanglang New Village in Xili on Monday afternoon. "The woman was crying and called the man by his name. He told her he would separate from her," the neighbor said. "They quarreled in public for quite some time. Many people were watching."

Yi beat her again when they burst out quarreling over the mobile phone Monday. He then begged her for forgiveness and allowed her to tie him up in bed. He had been tied up until about 3 p.m. Tuesday, when the incident happened.
"I found many pictures of a girl on the other mobile phone and questioned him. He taunted, 'Does it matter to you if she is my girlfriend?'"
"Then I took a pair of scissors and did the foolish thing," Wang said.
"I regret what I did. I was mad at the time," she told the police.
The co-worker living with the couple recalled the tragedy. "I didn't pay much attention at first, as they quarrel quite often. I was alerted after a neighbor downstairs came knocking at the door and complained blood was trickling down from the toilet. I stopped cooking my meal immediately, ran to our factory to report to the supervisor, and called the police." When he returned, Yi had been taken to hospital and Wang to the police station.

The woman surnamed Wang is a 24-year-old migrant worker from Henan Province. She and her boyfriend, identified by his surname Yi and also from Henan Province, had a 5-year-old daughter, but gave her away because Yi wanted a son.
Wang said she and Yi had lived together for nearly six years but hadnt registered their marriage. She said Yi would not marry her unless she gave him a son.
Wang told the court that Yi often beat her. She left him to find another job in Beijing in 2005, but came back to Shenzhen with him after he found her and promised to treat her well.
