Patna: A man in Bihar was castrated by a woman after he demanded that she return the money she owed him, police said on Sunday. The victim, with severe injuries to his private parts, has been admitted to a local hospital.
Police said Rambriksha Prasad, a resident of Kemai village in south Bihar's Nawada district, had sold his bull to a co-villager, Pratima Devi, for Rs7,000 (Dh519.43) six months ago.
Devi had promised to pay him the money as soon as possible but as she failed to do so, Prasad had begun pressurising her.
Relatives to her aid
Frustrated over his frequent demands for money, Devi called Prasad over to her house on the pretext of paying up the outstanding money. Instead, she chopped off his private parts. She was assisted in the act by two relatives.
"She called the victim at her residence on Friday night and slit his private parts with a sharp shaving blade," a local police official, P.C. Yadav, told the media.
He said the police had launched a raid in the area to nab the accused who is absconding.
Youth's hands chopped off
In a similar incident, a youth in Bihar, Ramsagar Chandravanshi, had his hands chopped off by unidentified persons after he failed to repay Rs300 he owed to a local contractor.
The police are yet to arrest the culprits. The Bihar government has been directed to pay compensation to the 22-year-old, an official said yesterday.
"The government should pay him a compensation immediately and the commission will inquire into the episode of how his hands were chopped off," Rajendra Prasad, a member of the Bihar Human Rights Commission, said.
Chandravanshi belongs to an extreme backward caste. "When I expressed my inability to repay the debt and requested them to give me more time, they ordered me to work for a couple of contractors in lieu of the Rs300 that I owed. But when I refused, it angered them so much that they first beat me badly and then started hitting my hands with an axe, chopping them off 10 days ago," he said.
"I fell unconscious and they threw me in a field," he added. His family admitted him to a hospital.
Two days ago, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered a probe into the gruesome incident after the opposition raised the issue in the state assembly.
