BEIJING, April 17 (Reuter) - A Chinese woman cut off her husband's penis because he was addicted to gambling and then killed herself, a Tianjin newspaper said in an edition seen in Beijing on Monday.
The woman, identified only as Zhang, took her life by drinking pesticide in her home in mountainous Xinyang county of central Henan province, the Today Evening News said.
The mutilation and suicide occurred in February, but the newspaper gave no reason for the delay in reporting them. Zhang committed suicide after cutting off her husband's penis while he was sleeping, the newspaper said.
Hu Changfa, a 27-year-old farmer, had lost the family's fortune and run up a gambling debt of more than 10,000 yuan ($1,187)--30 times China's average monthly salary.
