Self Driving Trucks

I think we have a few people her like sparkey and hereunuch who I gather have CDLs. I'd be curious about what they have to say.

There have been a few news stories about testing self driving trucks. I think that is beginning on simpler long runs like hauling beer from St Louis to Denver. I have never been a trucker but have respect for them over the years. We all have seen technologies and foreign competition replace people. Some of those people adapt and come out better while others don't. I kind of gather that there are fewer younger guys interested in the long haul, long hours and being away from home. Would this technology kind of be well timed to fill the gap between demand for moving goods and a fewer men and women interested in driving for a living? Am curious what people within the profession might say.

I have had my Comercial license since 1979, been a owner in a medium sized trash company, owned a trucking company including dump trucks, end dumps, septic trucks, flatbed and equipment trailers and wrecker so our hauling was all more local within a 5-600 mile radius. I do have two brothers with trucks one hauling local and the other runs most of the US. I just recently sold my last trucks and am glad to be done with owning them though I do still drive some for my brother in law but leaves most of the DOT stuff not my responsibility anymore. I have seen many changes including what they call the license. I was also a Third party tester for the State of Colorado for years when the new CDL license system went into place being the only tester for the state in over a one hundred mile radius. The new hours of service recording went into effect first of January and we will have to see how that plays out for the small independents. I have noticed a huge increase in the targeting of the trucking industry by lawyers. Overall the safety record for truckers is very good per mile compared to the average driver as it should be for sure. I for one have never had a moving violation in a commercial vehicle nor has my wife who also has her class A CDL. My focus now is more on my shop and mechanics and less on driving down now to around 50 to 60 thousand local miles a year.

Especially for some of our crowd watching attractive people in parades.

You notice how selective facists are in automating people out of jobs. With so many jobs in government, news casts, and on wall street that can very safely be automated and over paid jobs done away with to benefit the public, facists instead target truck driving. They don t care about public safety or deaths on the roads. But they do protect their own minions jobs to further their influence and control of countries.
