Army Sgt Bergdahl apparently had castration fantasies and thoughts of self castration. His defense psychologist has provided this as a contributing factor to his desertion!

I think this bit of news, about Bergdahl having castration fantasies, will give castration a bad - or worse if that is possible, reputation. So far, it seems to me that many people, especially women, are insanely averse to the idea of castration, and express outrage and hatred towards anyone who is considering castration. Now, if Bergdahl's association with castration becomes well known, people will also associate castration with desertion and treasonous behavior.

Well yes, this could be a very plausible. Another member of the service who is gender variant is Chelsea Manning. However, I believe as gender becomes more fluid it will become less of an issue. It used to be thought that a persons homosexuality was a security issue.
Damn balls all twisted 'n achin', Ill never get thru with this gait....

It makes you wonder if the super testosterone filled atmosphere of many men who are in the military might make some of the less masculine males want castration or a sex change to get out of all that intense ultra male competition and pressure ?

The militaries of the world are not a comfortable place to be for any man who is not confident in his own masculinity.

Castration of younger men is an uncomfortable topic for most men and women, especially in any public discussions. Castration of middle aged and older men for medical reasons like prostate cancer seem to be commonly accepted by most people. Its the age of the men that seems to make people get worked up about voluntary castration.

Yes, I don't think society is comfortable addressing the needs of men, especially young men unless it is in punitive ways. Thus, unless eunuchs were running about murdering identical twins every third Thursday of the month, I highly suspect limited attention would be devoted. Now if the birth rate fell off and every 3rd soldier choose castration over fighting...well
I won't drone on,
