I went to the doc and I have bph.... he has prescribed me finasteride, I am trying to talk him into dutasteride. My PSA was around 700...

PSA of 700! Normal is in the low single numbers. Have you had other tests for prostate cancer, like a biopsy?

Should have read 7.00... sorry. Dr. said for my age that 2.00 was average. And yes, the Dr. scheduled me for the 15th for a biopsy. Anyone been through that here?

My PSA has been over 10 and I've had several biopsies. Finally diagnosed with prostate infection and BPH. My PSA last month was still 6.0. I tried talking my urologist into some type of chemical castration but he wouldn't go for it.

Just took my first Proscar 5mg. Excited to see how long until I can see some hint of shrinkage. Doc gave me 11 refills, so I guess this thing is long term. Before on anti androgen was just about 2 months. Not really long enough to get a real good bead on it. Took a before for posterity. Does Proscar totally shut down testicles till they die? Wow, can't believe the journey has begun.

That drug only stops conversion of T to DHT. You will have same amount of T. Just less body hair and prostate issues.

The side effect of the drug working is impotence. There has to be shrinking of the genitals if I lose night erections. I might not be a complete eunuch, but I am awful dern close. The DHT deficiency causes low blood flow. Shrinkage. I appreciate what you are saying, but like I said, I am still pretty excited to see what this drug can do.

I am on finasteride 5 mg. DHT deprivation apparently is some powerful stuff.... on the second day I am only able to get a weak semi. It is not mental as I am not anxious about it, just intrigued. Balls still moving around but slightly aching a bit. Call me a liar if you want, this is a strong drug. I guess this is a YMWV situation.
