It all Gets very Confusing

Its Autumn (fall) right. You'll think this a strange observation,

Paulo but I notice that on the bottom of each page it says on my PC "all times are GMT" or words to that effect.

Curiously, the time shown is the current correct time in

UK which is not GMT because we have not changed yet to the fall day light saving time; now daylight saving time is actually GMT

and the time shown on the screen is actually BST (British Summer time). This all gets confusing; we get confused by EST and all US time zones. Winter time (GMT) will take effect, I think, on the last Sunday of October at 2am.

Mainland Western Europe (except Portugal) are on CET

Central European Time and Portugal and her islands are also on

the same time zone as the UK.

We've had an exceptionally dry and sunny and warm Sept here

and I guess Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and France have

needed some dry weather!

All of this is way off subject, but, Hi Guys, whatever the time is!

Actually, the time shown on your screen is displayed by the value of the variable in your user ID profile which is the GMT offset. If you are 4 hours behind GMT, for example, and you checked that, it will adjust the time for you. You can really make it do whatever you want. If you set it to +7 or so, whether you are or not, the cookie written by VBulletin will believe that you are where you say you are and show the time based on such.

I have noticed that it's GMT and I try to ignore the date and time changes that involves. After all, that's hard math, and It's late an night!!1

Paolo, The point I am making is that even in countries using GMT that unless they are near the equator that in Spring and Autumn

(fall) the time will vary by an hour. I obviously set my details in winter when GMT was the actual time here in the UK, but it is not the actual time for more than half the year and yet it displays now

the correct time which is GMT+1 (for summer) but that doesnot make it GMT which I think is also known as UTC also.

Anyway, with a bit of time on my hands at least these messages have re-opened the Gay Cafe. even if I ought to have put it on the "techie" board - it seemed strange that we had had no gay input here for more than 30 days!
