Liezel Betita calls mutilation a 'punishment' for husband Mark's infidelity, says she has no regrets and is ready to face the court

ILOILO CITY — A scorned wife tormented by thoughts of her husband’s infidelity cut off her husband’s penis on Apr. 22, police said on Wednesday.

Mark Betita, 33, was about to sleep inside his room in Carles town, Iloilo, when his wife, Liezel, cut off his penis using a pair of scissors at 10:30 p.m. on April 22.

Liezel is now detained at the police station in Carles town, pending the resolution of the case filed against her at the prosecutor’s office for mutilating her husband.

But Liezel showed no remorse.

“I don’t regret cutting off his penis. It’s his punishment for being a womanizer. I am ready to face the consequences of my action,” Liezel said in Hiligaynon.

PO2 Alexis Bataga of Carles police said investigation showed that Liezel joined her husband, a construction foreman, in a drinking session evening of April 22.

When her husband became drunk, they went to their room to sleep. Moments, later, Mark came out of the room running and bloodied.

“The wife allegedly cut off her husband’s penis,” Bataga said.

Mark was brought to the hospital but physicians failed to reattach his penis to the remaining two inches of the shaft.

Liezel said she just wanted to teach him a lesson.

“I am tired of his womanizing. He got a new girlfriend lately,” Liezel said.

Her husband’s new paramour is the wife of a fellow construction worker, according to Liezel.

Liezel managed to undress her husband of his pants and underwear without waking him up.

Arroyo said he saw splatter of blood on the floor and the victim holding on to his penis.

“Apparently, skin was the only thing that kept his penis together,” Bataga said.

Mark was rushed to Jesus Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Balasan town.

He was later referred to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City for further treatment.

Based on police, it was impossible to surgically reattach Mark’s penis due to the severe damages to the tissues and nerves.

A jealous wife has been arrested after creeping up on her husband while he was sleeping and hacking off his penis – with a pair of SCISSORS.

Mark was later transferred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City where surgeons attempted unsuccessfully to reattach his penis.

Physicians said that because the major nerve had already been severed there was little they could do. Tissue from the part cut off had also already died.

It is probable that using scissors will damage the nerves and tissues of the penis more while a knife would give a cleaner cut. The way a scissor slices and the fact that a woman can continue cutting even if she isn't successful on the first cut would probably effectively fillet and shred the area where the cut took place if she keeps pressing the handles over and over.

Maybe this is why scissors are favored by Chinese women more.
