As a film not a bad romp in the jungle however I have a small problem with it.
When the helicopter crews shot at Kong and he got very cross

swiping out the first helicopter with his fist...Err why didnt the other crews of the remaining hellicopters realise the danger and fly above kong so they would be too high to be snatched out of the sky...

I've always wondered how an overgrown member of a species of primate native to Africa ended up on a Pacific island.

I came back to this thread because KONG: SKULL ISLAND is currently on HBO...
I agree -- why do the helicopters fly too close to Kong? Why don't they fly higher than he can reach. dumb as a rotting turnip
Why when the survivors are told "DO NOT GO THROUGH THE CREEP FOG COVERED LANDSCAPE WITH ALL THE SKELETONS AND ROTTING CORPSES" do they insist on doing just that? (well then there would be no movie)
But it's fun eye candy with explosions, action, strange island people -- all the requisite eye-candy for the screen.

oh twiddly-phartes and other such silly things...
Because I didn't want to watch repeats of Law&Order (soul-sucking murderers get me down) and news (soul-sucking hate gets me down) I put on KONG: SKULL ISLAND and while I washing last night's dishes (hey, I'm a bachelor) the movie ended and the credits rolled and
SUDDENLY without warning,
an "after credits" scene appeared -- It seems that KONG is not the KING OF MONSTERS but in 2019 there will be a new GODZILLA and ultimately Mothra, King Gihdra and one of the other monsters will be "re-imagined" in their own new movies.
I'm so thrilled.
(sarcasm abounds)

Personally I think that this movie is good. Yes, this is not the best movie ever and the original movie is better but this version looks great, actors are great and story is not bad. So I think that this movie can be a good revival of the original universe of King Kong. I hope that they will only progress in the next films
