Unpopularity

Thank you, the 1000th reader of 'James Bond's Boyhood Adventures', for enabling the latest chapter of the tale eventually to achieve 4 figures.

However, some explanation as to the story's unpopularity, amongst those possessing similar tastes to mine, would be welcome before I continue the story.

I know that there's the usual 'too long', 'too slow', 'too verbose', 'too distracted', etc, attitude from many to my tales but I was still surprised that James' adventures have proved so unpopular.

A question I need to ask:-

Is this because the story is 'too British' for the majority of board users, with scenes set in current America or involving Americans really only truly popular?

Please advise!

I really enjoyed the series - maybe becasue I live in one of the other Channel Islands (Alderney) - or pehaps because it is a good, well written story.

I have been enjoying the James Bond series (as I enjoy all your stories) and certainly hope it continues. As to why it is unpopular, I don't know. I am American, but I have never thought of anything as being "too British."

My only suggestion is that it seems like it's about time for our ostensible hero, James, to get his balls in peril.

Pueros,

I usually don't post on the boards, because I have been accussed of favoring, BUT ..... I have only one word to say about JBbA .....

Moneypenny!

I LIKE this tale!

I can relate to the unpopularity issue as well. For example, my XY-n story has well over 1500-2500 hits on every part, every part hit every day since Nov. 2001. And almost NO feedback.

Harry Potter & tKoK, on the other hand, hardly 300 hits on each part but part 1 at 1000 or so, and it's gotten more feedback than anything I've ever done.

Like you, I don't get it?!

;)

Paolos and Pueros:

First-you have to consider the audience. I lurked around the archive on and off for about a year before I ever wrote a story or posted on the message board. I was looking for titillation, not literary excellence. I would have never started reading a story that had fifteen chapters and still wasn’t complete, or even, if complete, had that many chapters.

I’ve come to realize that some people here are excellent writers, and am in awe of the ability of Paolos and Pueros, but, again, consider the audience. Paolos’ Harry Potter is a great story, but, to attract a larger audience, more would need to be cut off-testicles, etc. It moves too slowly to attract many of the visitors to this board.

In my limited experience here, I’ve found that the email feed back I get is usually proportional the number of balls that get cut off in the story. I’ve written some stories which had little sex or violence, but which I liked more than those than did. I’ve never received feedback on most of those.

I’ve received positive feedback on my Tales of Pulkritude, which are mostly a series of related short stories, not a continued story such as you write, but those tales have received half as many hits as any of my complete short stories. I assume that many people don’t want to bother with something that may not be complete, or that they can’t read quickly. A sure way to cut down on the number of hits a story gets is to have Chap 1, Chap 2, etc., listed in the title.
