Best surgery for "cover story"

The subject is going in for surgery and is having his gonads removed. I'm looking for a surgery that makes a good "cover story" for why he's going under the knife in the first place.
Hernia repair and vasectomy are the obvious ones I can think of.
If he knows what is going to happen, it doesn't matter too much as long as it explains why he's in the hospital and can't do too much for a couple of days.
If he does not know he's being neutered, anything involving his head is out because he's going to wonder why he has pain and/or scars elsewhere.

I'm trying to imagine how a guy would go to a presumably reputable hospital to be neutered and not know that that's what's going to happen. And if he knows, who is he trying to fool with the cover story? I think you'll get better suggestions if you provide some more detail on the circumstances you envision for your plot line.

The cover story is to explain why he's in the hospital in the first place, out for few days, on bed rest, has new abdominal scars, is avoiding certain physical activities, etc. It doesn't have to be true, though an injury that puts him in the hospital and gives a reason to be in the pelvis would help.
Does know: One story I'm working on involves a group marriage. One guy is no longer going to be having kids. (Combination his decision, group vote, marriage contract) There will be a conversation with some of the group's progeny. Something along the line of "Remember when George was gone for a bit and the moms told us he was having xxxx done? He was actually getting neutered."
Doesn't know: It could be set in the past, and alternate present, or alternate future. Jackass surgical crew, with or without the spouse in collusion.
